Dr. Malafa is an excellent doctor and explains everything thoroughly.

How can you write a review about a man who gave me my life back. He carried me on his shoulders giving me the courage to fight pancreatic cancer and took me through pancreatic/spleen surgery as if I was getting my tonsils removed. He then was kind enough to do surgery on my herniated ostomy which wasn't an easy surgery either. And here I am one year from the last surgery feeling like a princess writing a note about my knight in shining armor. GOD bless you Dr. Malafa and Blanca and all the staff at Moffitt who saved a wretch like me.

I have made an initial visit to see Dr. Malafa, and I must say he was quite impressive. He spent a lot of time talking with me and you can feel his sincerity and passion. He explains everything well. He has me on a follow up program and he is very thorough. His assistant Blanca is superb and has great follow up as well. I highly recommend Dr. Malafa.

The "Michael Jordan" of GI Surgery!

My dad who is 81 years old was told he had a tumor in his pancreas 3 months ago. He was living in New England and had it biopsied 3 times in 2 weeks time,where it was still not determined for sure if it was cancerous, though very likely. He then developed pancreaitis and moving forward had to be delayed until he recovered from the pancreaitis. after a month and half of recovering he was able to make the trip to his winter home in Florida and make an appointment at the Moffit Cancer Center , we had heard many good reports. His assistant, Blanca was the first one my parents dealt with over the phone setting up an appointment, she was so pleasant,understanding , and always returned phone calls as promised. The day came when my folks were to meet Dr. Milafa for the first time. We all prayed for hope that day and an understanding surgeon who's desire to heal him was as strong as ours. This man was nothing short of a blessing to us, he came into the room with a big smile a warm handshake… and a personality that went way beyond what he had ever hoped for, He truly is a genuinely kind and caring person that will take all the time you need until you understand what is happening. All this, plus he is an amazing surgeon. My father had the whipple procedure and it was determined very successful. His surgery was a couple weeks ago, and he is feeling a little better each day. He had nothing but the best care from EVERYONE while in this hospital ( he was out in 5 days!) I hope this helps someone. I researched reviews constantly when looking into this whipple procedure, and I am here to say, this man is a great great person.

My husband was diagnosed with a stage three Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST); a rare sarcoma cancer affecting the colorectal and nearby organs. The chances of surgically removing it without removing his sphincter muscle, prostate and bladder were 0% to none. After consulting with a few sergeants we found Dr. Malafa the head of the GI unit at Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa Florida. The first day we met Dr. Malafa we knew that this was our doctor. He took his time to talk to us and help us cope with this horrible news; he was not just watching out for my husbandâ??s physical wellbeing but also his mental wellbeing. He coordinated a team of psychologists & psychiatrists; as well as sending him to colostomy support groups to get him ready for this life changing surgery. Nobody ever did that for us before; he really cares about you as a person not just a patient. On the day of the surgery we came in knowing that my husband will walk out with a permanent colostomy, urostomy and a removed… prostate. My husband woke up from surgery and realized that a miracle just happened, Dr. Malafa was able to spare all of his organs and still completely remove the 14 â?? monster that was inside my husbandâ??s rectum. So now my husband has a temporary ileostomy that will be reversed in a few months. We can honestly consider ourselves blessed to be in the hands of Dr. Malafa. Thank you for being our doctor.

I had a mole removed in 1997, and was referred to Dr. Malafa...he was my hero. He did a remarkable job on my wide excision, and was very caring and detailed in my follow up care and exams, I truly feel if I had had another surgeon, I may have not been so lucky. Also, people always remark that my scar is almost unnoticable... I truly respect and admire Dr. Malafa.
