Dr Monica Avila, MD, MPH, FACOG, FACS

Good listener, knowledgeable, compassionate, never rushed, great personality, and much more are a few of the words I would use to describe Dr. Monica Avila. I've had 4 types of primary cancers, starting with breast cancer in 2001 at age 41. The most advanced was ovarian cancer stage 3B diagnosed in December of 2015. I've been to some of the top US doctors and institutions, including the MD Anderson in Houston and Cleveland Clinic in both Cleveland and Weston Florida, and my experiences have been great, that's why I've survived 11 years with wonderful quality of life. Family life brought my husband and I to Tampa, where upon the recommendation of my oncologist at the MD Anderson I looked for Dr. Avila at Moffitt, and I couldn't be happier. Her knowledge, experience, demeanor, listening and caring ways are extraordinary. Always positive, good humored, and with an insatiable need to look for alternatives are commendable and incredibly uplifting for someone living with cancer. She's an 11… in my book!

No one wants to hear they have cancer once, let alone twice. 14 years after hearing it the first time, I met with Dr. Avila and had to hear it again. This time only at a worse stage. Dr. Avila held my hand as I cried and told me that I was going to beat this, and she was going to be there right beside me. I had chemo treatments along with a huge Surgery. Dr. Avila assured me she took every last bit of cancer out! Six months later and I am cancer free! I couldn't have asked for a more experienced and compassionate doctor. She saved my life which I am forever grateful for!
