Summary
Monique Chen knew from a very young age that she wanted to help others. She realized during her high school years that working as a nurse would enable her to achieve this goal. Monique began her health career as a Certified Nurses Aid in high school. After becoming a Certified Nurses Aid, she received her Licensed Vocational Nurse diploma from St. Phillips College. She then continued her education at San Antonio College where she earned her Associates Degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Monique then earned her Bachelor’s in the Science of Nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Her nursing background consisted of long-term care, home health, hospice, medical/surgical nursing, as well as working in an intensive care unit. Her ten years of nursing has given her a great amount of empathy, patience, and understanding towards her patients. After ten years of nursing, Monique and her family experienced firsthand the shortage of …mental health providers when she was seeking help for her daughter who was suffering with anxiety. She decided to go back to school to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to better understand mental health and be able to help others in need. She received her Master’s in the Science of Nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse since March 2020. Monique is no stranger to trials and tribulations and understands that each person is their own work in progress. Monique believes in helping individuals improve their wellbeing because she understands that without good mental health, the individual and their family suffers.
