Dr. Monisha Goyal, MD

My daughter has seen so many doctors in her lifetime due to her chronic medical conditions and has even been misdiagnosed by a couple of them; but Dr. Goyal is by far the worst doctor we’ve ever seen! She spoke so rudely to me, but even more distressing is the way she spoke to and about my daughter. My daughter, who was already experiencing difficulty with physical symptoms affecting many systems of her body, came away from her experience with Dr. Goyal believing she was “crazy” and “overreacting”. Due to Dr. Goyal’s abrasive and insensitive comments, my daughter then had to deal with the mental anguish of thinking she herself was somehow causing most of her symptoms. We followed up with a neuropsychologist who was puzzled by my daughter’s symptoms and declared her to be “amazingly well-adjusted” in light of all she had been dealing with. Within three months from seeing Dr. Goyal, my daughter’s health further deteriorated, and through various specialists including those at the… Mayo Clinic, medical conditions were discovered. It turns out she has a rare disease that explains all the symptoms and conditions that affect so many systems of her body. My daughter’s disease might have been beyond the realm of Dr. Goyal’s limited knowledge, but she could have at least treated her kindly. My daughter still bears the scars from her insulting words. No child, particularly one who is ill, should ever have to go through that from a doctor who should truly care about all of her patients.

She has to be the rudest dr I have ever met. She talk to me like I was stupid. If we had to have stayed another day I would have requested another dr. She raised her voice at me asking me Mom you tell me what you want me to do. Did you just want me to throw him on some meds. We were sent there cause one of the top neurologists seen seizures activity in my son's eeg. All she could tell us is he had abnormal spikes in his eeg and smand tht was normal in kids. I ask about a mri and a ct scan she said tht was necessary they didn't do those in a 48hr eeg study. N there was no need to do one on him. That what he was doing was normal childhood behavior. My son has never never done the things he has been doing. She seen my son 15mins in two days thts all. She said he would have a follow up appt with his new neurologist in a few weeks. Wrong n I told her they already contacted me cause the EMU team had contacted him and his appt was in 4days. N he needed to be seen asap. She said really why so… soon. There is nothing wrong with your child but abnormal spikes. They must have had an opening. I will never allow this woman to see my child again. I will not be spoken to like tht. At discharge they handed me a pamphlet tht she told them to give me for epilepsy/seizure patients. Which I didn't understand cause she said he only had abnormal brain spikes. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE EVER. SHE IS SO RUDE AND UNCARING. PLEASE UNDERSTAND MY CHILD ALREADY HAS ABNORMAL BCELLS AND DOUBLE NEGATIVE TCELLS WITH RAG1 GENE MUTATION. RUDE NEEDS TO BE TURNED OVER TO MEDICAL BOARD

This doctor had an MRI done on our child and told us the MRI was normal. We received a copy of the MRI report and there was atrophy in a part of the brain known as the cerebellum found. This doctor tested for Spinocerebellar ataxia but we were never told that - the test was negative but she only tested for 1 and there are many SCA diseases. We wouldn't return to her and within a short time our daughter was falling more and more, her walk ataxic. The next MRI would show whole brain atrophy and our child would died having a seizure. Because we want no other parent to suffer as we did, our child's brain was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where neuropathologists are studying to understand the disease that took her from us. We should have been told how serious atrophy in the brain is. We were told our child had Alternating Hemiplegia of childhood not brain atrophy.

Doctor Goyal has been seeing my son for about 6 months and she has been so compassionate and takes the time we need to understand his diagnosis and treatment plan. Additionally she is one of few physicians that when I leave a message for a nurse... returns the call herself to discuss my concerns. I have never felt rushed or like I was bothering her. I would strongly recommend Dr. Goyal!

She is very compassionate and takes the time to listen. My son loves to go see her. I am really impressed.

First time I ever saw a professional roll her eyes at me, the parent. Thank God I was not an inexperienced parent and I had a prior neurologist who cared. The importance of a Caregiver and Physician relationship can mean everything in quality care of children. Goyal gave me no indication she would meet the standards of care I have grown to expect for my child, nor that she had any respect for her patients.

We had a great experience with Dr. Goyal. My daughter liked her and she was great with her. She treated all of us with respect and was very kind and sensitive to my daughter's needs. Being in her field I'm sure she sees certain behaviors that might raise some flags. To me taking notice of such things is being very in touch with your patients. We loved her.

Our family was disappointed with Dr. Goyal. My sister was a patient for a reasonably long length of time (switched) but basically Dr. Goyal is out of touch with the patients and family. It was hard to get a good answer to your question. She also tries to be a psychiatrist...
