Dr. Monte I Stavis, MD

We went to Dr Stavis Monte for our 4 year old daughter’s eye check-up since she started complaining about getting head ache and feeling very tired just after her montessori school day or whenever she does drawing or coloring, painting and she would just lie down with eyes closed at home. We were so sad seeing her condition and after knowing how much she loves coloring and painting cartoons. She was born with one lazy eye which was turning outwards and had her eye correction surgery in our home country in Feb, 2018. Dr. Stavis examined carefully and explained us at length about how many eye doctors just correct the eye muscle which make the eye look in sync and good but does not pay attention towards the behind the eye muscle and movement which may cause twisting and make person feel pathetic even though the eye looks good from face view. Dr Stavis shared his diagnosis that her right eye is twisted inwards a lot and left eye twisted out a little and asked the questions which… matched her tiredness symptoms. The only way to treat this was via surgery. He also shared his confidence level about such surgery and also based on past surgeries he has done. He went extents to even share his book transcripts to make us educated with the problem and cure and also about how he is sharing the correct and complete way for such eye correction to other doctors in various forums. He did try out other possibility to reduce the twisting as far as possible before the surgery like he prescribed eye drops for her inward eye twisting but unfortunately the drops did not work as we all were expecting. We finally proceeded with surgery which was around 2 and half hour at Hermann hospital. Surgery was successful and she was prescribed with optimal post OT syrups anti-bacterial, etc and with just 4 days after operation my kid is back with coloring and drawing as long as she likes. Still recovering with slight redness in eyes. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr, Stavis Monte for providing his genuine attention and treatment to our kid. We are grateful we approached Doctor who not only has in-depth expertise but, also a lot of experience in his field. Also, a big thanks to Mellisa who is the first point of contact for Dr. Stavis Monte. She is polite, kind, very helpful and together they make a great team.

I went to Dr. Stavis because my previous diagnosis from other "prestigious" Medical District doctors left me with no hope of seeing normally again. I had a brain tumor that was removed 4 years ago. It affected my vision tremendously. I saw double and my balance was off. My first visit with Dr. Stavis renewed my hope as he thoroughly explained how he could help me. My left eye was turned inward and my right eye shook. He said he was confident that he could make it better. He preformed the surgery on both eyes. On the left eye, he tightened the inner muscle and loosened the outer muscle. On the right eye, he had to do a bit more work. He cut the muscles out on both sides and stitched them back in. Within a few days of healing, I no longer have the double vision. Thank God for Dr. Stavis, for his continued research and practice, to help cases like me.

This guy man let me start by saying he has one of the best receptionist I have ever had the pleasure of meeting from day one she was always very helpful and seemed to always care about any issues I might have shout out to her son also my boy had his surgery the day before I did hope you are feeling better homie! Well anyways I’m Gmo I’m 22 years old the day before my 20th birthday I went out with some friends and we had a bad car accident that left me in a comma as a result when I woke up my left eye started drifting off to the side and for 2 years after that I sort of had a lazy eye you can say it made it really hard for me to do a lot of things because my vision was double and it was sensitive to light I had somewhat given up on ever getting my eye back to normal but thanks to the best and coolest doctor in Houston no f that lol in the world I am here 3 days after my surgery writing this with my vision well on its way to be just like new thank you so much to Dr.stavis and melissa For… making this a possibility!

After seeing two other ophthalmologist and not being satisfied with their diagnosis, Dr Stavis was recommended to us by Bee Well Pediatrics and what a difference. Dr. Stavis Really cares that you understand the diagnosis and takes his time explaining your options. He doesn't make you don't feel like a number but a human being. His bedside manner is amazing and his knowledge and techniques incomparable to anything we have experience in the past. For the first time I feel at ease and know that my son is in the best hands!

I had a great experience with Dr. Stavis. He corrected my sons eyes which were twisting and rotating on both eyes. His unique procedure worked wonders. My son can now enjoy doing things that his vision limited him before. He can walk up stairs normal which was a problem and enjoy books and all other kid stuff! It has been a night and day difference for my little boy who is 4 years old!!

If you are a parent, reading this review for research, then I am pretty sure I know how you are feeling right now... apprehensive, overwhelmed, perplexed, but most of allâ?¦ like there is not a single thing you wouldnâ??t do to help your child. I know because I was in the same boat recently. My son has a long list of special challenges and his eyesight is just our most recent â??adventureâ??. For the last 3 years, we have fought him to wear his glasses. When he started school last year it became even more important because we realized what a struggle he was having with his reading. He has struggled with reading I had given up fighting... Until I met Dr. Stavis! I met Dr. Stavis, through a recommendation. When he told me my son had twisting of the eye muscles and he showed me how his eyes turned up. He explained that my son was uncomfortable all the time, that he fidgeted not because of ADD but because he could not focus for any period of time, and that his reading was affected… because he could not read straight lines. I was blown away. Muscle twisting?! Really? We were told he would need surgery and I wonâ??t lie, I was reluctant. This is my childâ??s eyes we are talking about. However, with all the challenges my son faces, if I take a chance so that he does not have to fight one more struggle on a daily basis, I had to try. We followed Dr. Stavisâ?? recommendation and allowed him to do the eye surgery to correct the muscle twisting and the turning. His bedside manner was exceptional, always making sure that we knew what was going on, and what to expect. The staff at the main hospital was beyond accommodating and made my son feel so special. I was nervous but I was excited, too. Now it was a waiting game to see the results. It wasnâ??t until a week after the surgery, when I went to get my son up for school and his light was on. I opened the door and to my complete shock he was reading a book. No one told him to read. No one fought him to read. In fact, I was so blown away. I asked him to read me a few pages just to make sure he wasnâ??t looking only at the pictures. He read each work like I had never heard him read before. He was not adding in letter that didnâ??t exist. His eyes were not bouncing all over. He was not begging to stop after three pages. He read me half the book before I asked him to stop and get ready for school. I asked him to stop!! HE WAS READING! Right there, right then I knew Dr. Stavis had done exactly what Alex needed. He had helped my son and now my son could go leaps and bounds further than ever before. He has opened up a world of opportunities for my son and I will be forever grateful. Thank you Dr. Stavis for taking care of my son and helping him when no one else could.

Dr. Stavis was highly recommended to me he has done 2 surgeries on my daughter the first one I was so amazed of how straight her eyes were and she needed a second one because she had some twisting on the back of her eyes but now she looks 100%better I have no complaints. Love his office my child loves going to see him I have never had a problem with wait time. I would highly recommend him to anyone my step daughter has the same problem with strabismus and he is going to do surgery on her as well and I'm glad we chose him as our Dr

I was told to find another doctor. We asked for contact lenses for our son and we got percriptions for glasses. Now we are told to pay more money and another office visit to get the contacts. They only fit the contacts at Memorial city not Willow Brook. (Failed to make us aware of this when making appointment) Never once tried to compromise on the situation or admit fault in regards to the wrong service being given. They have enough patients apparently and do not care enough about my child's eye condition or would have worked things out.

I believe that Dr. Stavis is a very qualified & caring doctor. But driving from out of town and having to wait upwards to an hour and a half past my sons appt. time to see Dr. Stavis when he has an appt. is unacceptable. This has happened 5 of 6 times we have seen Dr. Stavis. The next visit will determine if we return to Dr. Stavis or find another ophthalmologist. His office staff need to manage his & their time better.
