Dr. Monty Howell Oppenheim, MD

I was in labor at Sibley and he came in to give me my epidural. I was in the middle of the contraction when he came in so when he said hi, I only nodded at him. He then said, "Does she even know any English?" and then I looked up and said "Yes, I do speak English I'm just in the middle of labor right now" and he proceeded to address my husband the whole time and not me. I ended up needed a c-section and in the OR he was so rude and condescending to the nurses - the whole room was tense. If I can avoid him in the future, I will.

I had a procedure canceled by Oppenheim yesterday because he is unfamiliar with Afib and thought it was an emergency condition. It’s not. I left Sibley later with no surgery, a cardiologist’s recommendation for doing nothing about the Afib, and a wasted day. If Oppenheim introduces himself as your anesthesiologist, remember that you cans and should defer the procedure until someone competent can sit in the anesthesiologist’s chair.

Dr. Oppenheim went into far too much detail about all that was going to happen. I have had surgery twice before and never felt afraid before this experience.

I was highly anxious about needing general anesthesia for outpatient surgery, but Dr. Oppenheim was very kind and patient in explaining my options and relieving my concerns, and everything went well. I hope I don't need his services again, knock wood, but if I do, I know I'd be in good hands.

He was my Anesthesiologist at Sibley. Amazing, made me feel at ease, comfortable and in safe/good hands. Took his time explaining everything. I am a nurse and the entire staff at Sibley was excellent for my surgery and recovery.
