This person was the physician on overnight duty in the ICU at the long term acute care hospital where my mother died last week. I spent 15 hours at her bedside until she passed, and not once during that time did he even enter her room to check on her. Furthermore, even when I conferred with the very excellent nursing staff throughout the night, he stood nearby and never once spoke to me (I was the only family member with her that night). Most egregiously, when this physician pronounced my mother's death, I stood not 3 even feet away holding her hand, and still, he could not be bothered to as much as utter a single word to me - even to say "she's gone." I am filing a complaint with the hospital administration and medical staff about this individual's astonishing lack of any compassion or even basic respect for patients or their family members.
