Dr. Nadeem Zoeb Alavi, DO

I had the unfortunate experience of having to see Dr. Alavi during "walk in" hours because my very competent doctor within the same practice did not have any availability when I became ill. I had been suffering with severe stomach cramps and diarrhea for 4 days when I saw Dr. Alavi on a Friday afternoon. My abdomen was so distended I had to cut the waistband of my sweat pants to get into them for my doctors visit. Any other type of pant was out of the question as I appeared to be about 6 months pregnant at that point. I was literally crying in pain, in the waiting room, while awaiting my turn to see the doctor. Dr. Alavi saw me for less than 5 minutes, did not palpate my abdomen (I was not instructed to change into a gown), and did not order any tests. He told me that he thought that it was gynecological and if the pain persisted throughout the weekend then I should call and make an appointment with a gynecologist on Monday. By 6am on Sunday I was in the emergency room where I was… immediately admitted and subsequently remained hospitalized for the next 12 days. Needless to say, it was very apparent to everyone there that I had a burst appendix and with testing it was determined that portions of my colon were ruptured and I was extremely ill. My hospitalization included surgery, multiple IVs for the duration of my stay, a feeding bad, etc...I feel confident that if Dr. Alavi had listened to me describe my symptoms and performed any type of examination or testing, I would not have gotten that ill. Thankfully, my experience at the hospital and the care that I received there was outstanding, however I cannot say the same for my experience with Dr. Alavi. What prompted me to write this review, nearly three years after the event, is that I called into the Vernon Hills office last week to schedule an appointment with my primary care physician because I was experiencing stiffness in my hands. The nurse that I spoke to suggested that, because my doctor did not have availability, I should instead visit during "walk in" hours. I thought that I was having a PTSD experience and explained to her that there is nothing in this world that could convince me to visit their "walk in" hours again. I will wait to see my primary care physician or head straight to the emergency room the next time I'm in a similar predicament. If zero stars was an option to rate this doctor, you can be certain that I would give him that rating.

Very caring. Really listens to problems and spends time problem solving the issues. Does not just dismiss patients complaints.

Dr. Alavi is very caring. He is easy to talk with; good with young adults. Highly recommended.

DR. ALAVI ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS AND MORE!! HE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE IN ALL THE CONSERNS I HAD. I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY THAT HE IS MY DOCTOR.
