Nader Oskooilar does not follow best practices of psychiatry. He frequently diagnoses people who are not his patients. He has diagnosed DSM defined, “long-standing and pervasive” Personality Disorders to 20 year olds who are not his clients after fewer than 5 sessions with little information of that described person’s pattern that extends past the last year of that person’s life. He mistakenly has identified phobias, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and mood/anxiety disorders for other people who are not his clients. It can feel nice when someone who is making someone feel negative is pathologized by a professional. It, however, is a sign that the therapist is not behaving like a professional, and is also prone to pathologizing his clients as a defense. This tendency may make him endearing to clients initially, but may ultimately be the reason that treatment is not successful. This therapist should consider respecting the long-standing rules and boundaries of… psychiatry/psychology (which are there for a reason), seeing a therapist themselves till they aren’t passing on their psychiatric issues to their clients and worsening their emotional life, or retiring from this industry.

Been contemplating this review for over a year since treatment ended, but decided that it can be potentially beneficial for others. He diagnosed me with personality disorders in a passive aggressive manner because he didn’t disagreed with my ethical/political views (when describing worse things within my personal life, he didn’t lash out with a disorder). He goes on frequent rants against religion, and views religious people incredibly negatively (I’m atheist, so it didn’t bother me initially, but now I recognize it’s a problem to have that much ill-will toward billions of people). He’s liberal, in the racial sense, since he’s an immigrant/person of color, but when it comes to financial/economic matters, he believes that poor people deserve their place, and that he’s taxed too high and his $200k salary is too low. He thought slavery wasn’t as bad as depicted in the movies. He’ll take $1000 a month but then critique you for not being independent from them with regards to residence. He… won’t help you with setting up your insurance that he’ll take. He’ll end treatment at the worst time after he’s asked about your past traumas and you’ve discussed the hardest things to discuss in your life, yet he does nothing to help you solve them or resolve that tension. So let’s, generally, you had a problem with your parents separating, or rejection/abandonment anxiety; the moment you go to the traumas involved with them, is the moment he’s going to do the thing you’d fear the most and do the same exact thing that your parent/former lovers did. All in all, after being his patient for 2 years, I was absolutely left in a worse place than before treatment began. I would absolutely, unequivocally, NOT trust him with past traumas, or to perform psychoanalysis. I would also not trust him with regards to drugs, since he’s prone to over-perscribing, and had given me 5 different medications. I would only trust him for basic cbt/with break ups/basic relationship issues, and with surface level behaviors/issues. Again, do not trust him with trauma work, even if he insists. That’s my recommendation. Best of luck.

Excellent Doctor very few like him, he was able to handle my concerns respectfully and he make sure he asked enough questions to get every aspect of my problem before he prescribed any medication.
