I’d like to provide a detailed account of my experience with Dr. Nadia Esfandiari at Aesthetics and Implant Dentistry of Atlanta, in the hope that it might help others in their search for quality dental care. I’ve been diligent about my dental health for years, with regular check-ups every six months (except for a year I spent abroad). My dental work history has been mostly routine cleanings and fillings, with no major issues. Two years ago, I switched to Aesthetics and Implant Dentistry of Atlanta due to its proximity to my home, and up until my most recent visit, I had only received cleanings. During my latest visit, Dr. Esfandiari identified multiple cavities and recommended five fillings, some of which were preventive. She also recommended doing all five fillings at the same time. However, the experience was far from what I expected: - During the… procedure, the numbing was excessive. I lost sensation not only at the treatment site but also all the way up my right cheek and to my ear. (This has never happened to me before). - By the end of the procedure, I was still numb and unable to assess how the fillings felt or fit. Since the fillings were done, I’ve been experiencing a series of ongoing problems: - I’ve felt persistent jaw pain and a sense of misalignment, particularly on the right side. - I returned to the office seeking relief, but the pain wasn’t alleviated after my follow-up visit. - A few days after the second visit, I felt a "pop" in my jaw, which seemed to relieve the misalignment I had been experiencing. I suspect this was related to the original procedure. It almost felt like my jaw was out of place somehow and popped back into place. - Despite being reassured that the sensitivity would subside within a week, it has not improved in any of the areas where fillings were placed. - I’m unable to chew on my right side, and the top filling feels excessively tall, which has caused issues with my mouthguard and caused it to literally break at the filling location. - I still experience tingling in my right cheek, which feels like residual anesthesia. I made a follow up appointment and expressed my concerns of jaw pain and misalignment. Even though some adjustments were made to one of the fillings, the pain and sensitivity persisted. At the second appointment Dr. Esfandiari assured me that the discomfort would resolve in a week and was told this was "normal.” The discomfort hasn’t resolved and the ongoing pain and difficulty chewing have made me question the quality of care. I called to schedule a third visit for further resolution, but was told Dr. Esfandiari went on vacation, leaving me without any treatment for over a week. This added to my frustration and made me feel like my concerns were not being prioritized. Dr. Esfandiari mentioned having 15 years of experience, which initially gave me confidence in her care. However, given the unresolved issues and the ongoing pain, I’m left questioning the level of expertise I was promised. By the time my third visit approached, I began considering finding a new dentist, as it became clear that my concerns were not being addressed adequately. I also reached out to the interim practice manager, Sheree, who informed me that the office stands by its work and would address the issues during my third visit. After careful consideration, however, I’ve decided to seek care elsewhere, as the pain and lack of resolution have made it difficult to trust the office’s commitment to quality care. As patients, trust in our healthcare providers is essential. It's hard to maintain trust when promises are made but not fulfilled, and when we are left in pain without effective solutions.
