Dr. Nancy Mclaughlin, MD

Dr McLaughlin is a neurosurgeon fellowship trained in cerebrovascular surgery, complex skull base surgery and minimally invasive skull base approaches, allowing a thorough evaluation of best surgical options. Dr McLaughlins has a special interest in the surgical management of intracranial aneurysms, cavernomas, brain arteriovenous malformations, pituitary lesions, and complex skull base lesions, integrating open and minimally invasive techniques. Dr McLaughlin earned her medical degree and completed her Neurosurgical residency at University of Montreal, receiving the highest award in the department of surgery. She completed with honors a Masters degree in neurological sciences and a PhD degree in physiology, working on the vascular implication of high grade brain tumors on radioresistance. She successfully passed her Canadian neurosurgical boards and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She then completed a first fellowship in minimally invasive skull …base surgery at John Wayne Cancer Institute, allowing her to perfect her technical skills in endoscopic endonasal surgery and minimally invasive cranial approaches. She completed a second fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery and complex open skull base surgery at UCLA under the mentorship of Dr Neil Martin. Dr McLaughlin has authored numerous papers and book chapters on the management of vascular lesions and skull base lesions and has received numerous awards for her research. Dr McLaughlin is actively involved in developing strategies to optimize surgical and perioperative care for patients undergoing a neurosurgical procedure, specifically for those with intracranial vascular lesions, pituitary lesions, and complex skull base lesions. As an advocate for patients, Dr McLaughlin is also interested in the recognition and coordination of centers of excellence in cerebrovascular, pituitary, and skull base surgery.
