Dr. Nancy Mills, MD

I was an oncology RN and unfortunately came into contact with Dr. Mills. She was cold, condescending and rude. She gave wrong information and I realized that it was time to get a new oncologist. My husband is a MD and my daughter is a RN and we’re appalled at her behavior towards me. She embarrassed me in front of patients in the waiting room and violated my privacy. I received my notes and was shocked at the things written that had NEVER been told to me. The hospital was of no help and I was sent to the nurse advocate and when I received her letter she didn’t even have the date when I first saw Dr. Mills down. I am writing this so other women that have the unfortunate referral to her will think twice about using her. I will also tell you that the hospital was of no use. I come from a family of physicians and RN’s and do not do this lightly. Think twice before you use her as your oncologist. Mentally she put me through so much that no human being deserves. I have a wonderful… oncologist now that it incredible and I thank God for him.

Dr. Mills saved my life. I had aggressive stage 2b breast cancer. I am a survivor due in large part to Dr. Mills is an excellent and compassionate physician—smart, devoted, straightforward and doggedly determined to block cancer at every turn, leaving no stone unturned. Thank you Dr. Mills with all my heart for saving my life.

My mother saw Dr. Mills because of an ovarian cancer diagnosis. I never write reviews, but felt compelled to this time. Dr. Mills has a very off-putting communication style. She is very abrupt and aggressive when she communicates. For example, a cancer patient needs answers and will ask valid health related questions about treatment and cancer statistics. I was standing there once when she actually told my mother, "You ask a lot of questions..." I was appalled and it took everything inside of me not to react. My mother changed oncologists for many reasons. Dr. Mills had zero communication with my mother's surgeon at Sloan. The two of them did not work together at all. In fact, my mother changed surgeons months ago, and we just got a phone call reminding us of her appointment with that doctor. Dr. Mills never communicated with the surgeon to say that my mother had changed hospitals. In my opinion, Dr. Mills was not aggressive enough where she NEEDED to be-with the surgeon she… partners with. She needs to speak up more to the surgeons about proper care for her patients. Dr. Mills kept telling us that the surgeon did not feel that surgery was an option at this time, but she kept telling us that everything was progressing nicely. I am so ecstatic to report that my mother just had surgery at another hospital and those doctors were able to get all the cancer! I am terrified at the thought of what would have happened if we stayed put. Dr. Mills, it is not about ego or a patient asking "a lot of questions"-it is about being a supportive and compassionate life line to those who are suffering greatly. You have it in you---soften up with your patients and harden up with those you partner with.

Following a personality clash with another female oncologist at the Sleepy Hollow site, I switched to Dr. Mills. As a medical professional, I can truthfully say she is right on target. During my first visit she reviewed every system of my body to ensure I was getting appropriate screenings to cover any side effects that could occur from the cancer medication I am taking. Not one other doctor I see has ever done this. I think she's tops in her field.
