Dr. Nancy Oppenheimer Wood, MD

Dr. Wood treats cares for my children as if they were her own! She is thorough and professional at all times.

Have never met a doctor that is so thorough, efficient, and reassuring. She knows what to tell parents and what not to tell them (so they don't freak out). She shows great concern for our child without making us worry unnecessarily. If only adult doctors were so patient and understanding. Even if there is not a real treatment for illness, she treats the symptoms to make the baby more comfortable. We trust she and her colleagues and their conclusions infinitely. Would recommend to anyone.

Dr Wood was incredibly caring and efficient. I am a working mom and she was great. I had lots of questions answered and felt totally satisfied.

She doesn't like kids by the way she speaks to them.. very rude . Kids aren't adults

I took my sick grandson to her; she was wonderful with him. She spent a lot of time with us--and made us feel that we were important to her. Her diagnosis was correct. I would highly recommend her to friends and family.

My daughter tried to get an appointment for two days for her sick child. Left message for nurse to call her back to see if they would call him in something for sinus infection as she could not get an appointment. Call never returned. Called service after hours and a nurse returned her call, was told they would not call him any medication, call office next day and say she was told by nurse to get him an appointment. After a long wait in reception area she was told his insurance coverage was no longer in effect and wanted $235.00 for office visit. She told them he had coverage, but they would not re-verify, told her either pay the $235.00 or take him elsewhere. She left the office and on the drive home the office called and told her they made a mistake, his file was entered under another name, and they had verified his insurance coverage. However, it was past 5:00 on Friday and the office was closed, they had an appointment the next Monday and again refused to call him in… medication. She told them no thanks and took him to Urgent Care where he was promptly seen and given the needed medication. That office is so poorly run and unorganized, don't know how they ever manage to see patients. I love Dr. Wood, but her staff is unbelievably bad.

The first time I took my (then) 1 year old to this doctor at Pediatric Associates of Mobile I was convinced that I would never return after sitting in the waiting room for over 2 hours after her scheduled appointment. The front desk staff is extremely rude and acted as if I should not be annoyed by the long wait. Then we got back to Dr Woods. Her nurse was extremely friendly. When the doctor herself came it, she said that she understood if we felt a need to go elsewhere in the future, but then she examined my daughter, readily got us the referrals that we had been fighting her previous doctor for for months, and just won me over with her overall bedside manner. She is kind, cares about the children, but doesn't back off from giving you bad news when it's warranted or pointing out areas that need to be worked on. Since that first appointment the waiting room issues have barely improved. The front desk is still extremely rude and uncaring (although the check out girl seems very… nice) and the wait times average around an hour, even if you're one of the first appointments of the day. But the doctor and her nurse continue to make up for those issues with their respect, attentiveness, and knowledge. Dr Wood doesn't really follow up with us directly after referrals, but she does make sure to follow up on the issue at your next scheduled appointment. I do not know if she speaks to the doctor she refers us to in the meantime. So far my (now) three year old daughter has had tubes in both ears, a hearing evaluation, speech evaluation, and is now being referred to a neurologist (separate issues). In each instance she makes sure we understand how urgent an issue may be, provides us with detailed information on the concern at issue, and puts the referral through in a prompt manner. Phone calls are usually returned by her nurse or referral lady same day or next day at the latest. One major issue that we have is the doctors that we end up getting referred to. We end up getting referred to a lot of TERRIBLE doctors, so I've learned to research the doctors myself and have the referral changed if necessary before the appointment so as not to waste our time. If this doctor and her nurse were at a location with a better office staff I would give her 100%.
