2 major life events had happened to me and I had been in a very bad state of depression for several months. I lost my job, had no insurance and very little money. Because one time many years ago my primary doctor had prescribed an antidepressant for me, I asked her if she could prescribe one for me instead of having to go to a psychiatrist which would cost considerably more money. She got very angry and told me she doesn't do that and she doesn't approve of patients that self medicate! She told me she was well aware that I have had depression most of my life and that I have been on antidepressants before. I told her I couldn't afford to go to a specialist and just thought maybe she could help me. That's when she told me that maybe I should find another doctor! I had waited 6 weeks for this appointment to be accused of self medicating and told I should get another doctor, not to mention I still didn't get any help for my depression! She had been my doctor for about 10 years. Of… course after the way she talked to me, she didn't need to convince me to get another doctor. If she didn't feel qualified to prescribe an antidepressant, she could have just told me that rather than talking to me in that manner. I have never seen her again.
