Dr. Nandita Gopal Rao, MD

Think she’s awesome

I have been seeing Dr. Rao for 5 years. I have a very rare form of soft tissue sarcoma, and she has been with me through surgeries, treatments, and many, many tests. My cancer does not respond to normal chemo, so that has not been an option. It has become aggressive, and I am now terminal with about a year or so to live, though at this point I am still in good health, with no pain, and living a normal life. Through this, she has helped me to make decisions about treatment, and recently referred me to an expert doctor at M.D. Anderson. They offered me a treatment that might slow down the progress of the illness, but it was a form of chemo, and it would leave me sick for the rest of my life. I declined treatment and will now let nature take its course. Dr. Rao accepts my decision and will help me with end of life protocols. Her office staff has always treated me kindly and professionally, and her techs that do blood draws and CT Scans are the best! She has been knowledgeable in… what treatments were options for me, and referred me to experts in whatever treatment we were considering. I have to wonder about the people who gave her a bad review. Perhaps they need to check their attitudes at the door. Some people feel entitled to special treatment because of their illness. I cannot speculate as to their reasoning, but can only say my experience with Dr. Rao and her entire staff has always been as pleasant as it can be when you have to go to an oncologists office.

Dr. Rao is ok, though not impressive. I make it a point to be well informed when my health (and life) are on this line and many times I questioned treatment issues and found her to be uninformed. I recently dropped her and saw a new doctor, but the reason had more to do with her staff. Her nurse was nasty to me and, I believe, purposely set me up to miss my chemo appointment as punishment for being late to my Dr. apt This was compounded when she attacked me in front of others in the office and lied to me about her knowledge about the time I arrived to the office. Horrible nurse. I can't recommend Rao due to her nurse. When any health care provider puts their agenda at a premium to your health...it's time to waive bye, bye. Fortunately the new doctor I am seeing seemed more well informed, more deliberate and knew of and recommended the use of L-Glutamine as a preventative agent against the neuropathy side effects of Oxaliplatin as well as a more conservative approach to the use of… Oxaliplatin due to her knowledge of efficacy studies for my type and stage of cancer.

If you enjoy being told that you'll have test results back within the next 48 hours and then consistently having to call back two weeks later to ask for your results, this is the office for you. Absolutely terrible communication between doctor and office staff. Continual problems with billing/insurance. Constantly having to call back and make corrections. Make sure you comb through your bills with a fine-tooth comb because there have been over 3 times that I have been charged wrong. Scheduling is terrible. Dr. Rao is friendly, but does not ever explain reasoning behind what her decisions are with treatment. Has ordered repeat procedures done requiring me to question "am I really supposed to be doing this procedure again?", and her realizing she ordered it twice. Would have paid for a whole second procedure. If you ask me, both the physician and her office are too busy. Getting anyone on the phone to answer your questions and explain them is brutal.

Dr Rao is the best out there. She is the greatest doctor out there. She treated me for 2 years and there is not a day that goes by where I don't think about her and all she did for me. Her bedside manner was far superior then any other. She took time with me explained everything to me listened to me she became a good friend to me. I love Dr Rao she has a rough job I admire her so much . She goes to work everyday to help others and does a great job. I will always be grateful

I have been seeing Dr. Rao for 2 years now and I can honestly say she has always been spot on with her treatment plans for me. I know she has a busy practice but I have always felt like she listened to me and she would always try to accommodate my irrational requests. She has gone above and beyond for me and I couldn't have gone through this nightmare without her expertise and guidance, Her mind is full of knowledge and her heart is filled with compassion.

IMO, Horrible doctor. Very uncaring and inconsiderate. Did not expand on details of diagnosis. Had to ask questions that i didnt know i should need to ask. A doctor should care enough to explain. She did not follow up and blatantly told my father there was nothing wrong with him when CLEARLY he was admitted and held in the hospital for four days. TERRIBLE DOCTOR!

Doctor rao is abhorrent. She treated me like my life threatening condition was nothing. She referred me to a pain specialist who was her friend. He refused to see me and even broke the law by discussing my condition in his waiting room. When I told her of this humiliation she called me a liar. The last straw is when she refused to fill out my fmla paperwork. I almost got fired because I couldn't go to work because of my condition. DO NOT USE HER!!! She should not be allowed to practice!!!!

The most knowledgable, courtous, professionals I know. She never gives up on a patient and always insures they have the support they need outside of her office

Our experience with Dr. Nandita Rao was horrible. I DO NOT recommend that any one go to her for cancer diagnoses or treatment. Dr. Rao misdiagnosed my father-in-law and when she delivered the news to him she was very abrupt and told him he only had 5-12 months to live. Her "bedside manner" is harsh and uncaring. We decided to go to MD Anderson (thank goodness). Dr.Rao said she understood that we would go for second opinion but when approached by another doctor to discuss his case she said she wouldn't because we left her and then she hung up. WORST DOCTOR We have ever come across.
