Dr. Naro Luke Torres, MD

Listed as Accepting New Patients, Yet Our Sick Infant Was Turned Away I am extremely dissatisfied with our experience with this practice. We recently PCS’d to Oahu and needed to establish care for our infant son. We used the official TRICARE website to select Dr. Naro L. Torres as his new Primary Care Manager because he was presented as an available PCM. There was no warning that the practice was not accepting new patients. Even more concerning, this Vitals profile currently states that Dr. Torres is accepting new patients. Our son became sick shortly after our move. He was unusually fussy, felt warmer than normal, and vomited most of the milk and food he had consumed. His initial rectal temperature was 98°F, but because he is an infant and was clearly not acting normally, we brought him to the office expecting to have him evaluated by the physician TRICARE had allowed us to designate as his PCM. Instead, the front desk receptionist told us that they do not accept walk-ins and are… not accepting new patients. That alone was frustrating because it directly contradicted both the TRICARE directory and the information displayed here on Vitals. What made the experience much worse was the way we were treated. I specifically explained that our infant son was sick, vomiting, unusually fussy, and not acting like himself. There appeared to be virtually no concern or sympathy whatsoever. We were simply turned away. I did not expect a receptionist to diagnose our son, provide medical advice, or disregard office policy. However, when parents arrive with an obviously sick infant who has already been assigned to that physician as his PCM, I would expect at least basic compassion, acknowledgment of the situation, or guidance about where we should seek care. Instead, the interaction felt completely indifferent. We ultimately had to take our son to the emergency room at The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oahu. After being turned away from this office, his condition progressed and his rectal temperature increased into fever range. I cannot comment on Dr. Torres’s actual medical competence because he never evaluated our son. My dissatisfaction is with the practice experience, the lack of compassion shown when we presented with a sick infant, and the serious discrepancy between the information provided to patients and what the office actually does. If this practice is not accepting new patients, then it should not be represented to TRICARE beneficiaries as an available PCM, and it certainly should not be listed here on Vitals as “accepting new patients.” Military families arriving after a PCS rely on these directories to establish care. We should not have to discover that the information is inaccurate only after showing up with a sick baby who needs medical attention. This was an extremely disappointing first experience with what was supposed to be our son’s new primary care practice.

I really loved Dr Torres and so did my children. He was relatable and patient and just good with my children. It wasn't dreadful at all when they knew they'd be going to the doctor. The only downside I can think of is his small waiting room. If we still lived in Kapolei, he'd still be our doctor. Mahalo Dr Torres

Terrible, wait time is awful. Every time i bring my kids in i spend at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours waiting in the severly overcrowded, tiny waitroom. Cant stand it, im looking for a new doctor.

I've been taking my kids here for 2 years now and from the first visit, the wait has always been long.. 45 min to 2 hrs! But, I haven't switches YET ( I will soon) because he is a very caring Dr who remembers you and your kids and takes extra time to talk to you unlike other Dr's I've seen. I think everyone loves him which is why he's so busy but I can't do the wait any longer!

Dr. Torres is such a kind,loving Doctor.....but the wait is just crazy. Sometimes I wait 1-11/2 hrs in the waiting room and then wait again once in the room. Really too much overbooking!! The only reason I keep going back is because he is such a wonderful Doctor. :( I am seriously looking for another pediatrician.

Everytime that i bring my son in to see Dr. Torres the wait time is always outrageous! We are always having to wait 45 minutes or longer! The staff way overbooks the doctor.. & when we finally get into a room, were waiting an additional 15-20 minutes for the doctor to come in. By the time he comes in, your baby & you are already frustrated & then he only spends 5 minutes with you.. & rushes you out! I've had a very bad experience with this doctor. & am currently looking for another one. So if you have hours to wait at the doctors office, this is the doctor for you!

We love Dr. Torres!! We went through 2 pediatrician's before seeing Dr. Torres (our first one was too far and our second one died of a sudden death). Dr. Torres makes sure that we understand what is going on with our kids health before leaving. He has a way of explaining so that we understand. He's a very nice guy, one of the best we've had, and his staff treats us with a lot of respect.
