He completed an internship in pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University. Dr. Dean has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, authored book chapters and lectured both nationally and internationally. Dr. Dean’s clinical interests include neurocritical care, early mobilization, and ICU liberation, and quality improvement activities include the use of quality improvement to prevent hospital acquired conditions, such as unintended airway loss, central line bloodstream infection (CLABSI) and catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI); and to enhance recognition and rescue of the deteriorating patient.
