Dr. Nathan W. Hales Hales, MD, FACS

I had scheduled a visit with him regarding recurrent ear infections and eustachian tube dysfunction. I had been dealing with ear infections for years and had tried decongestants and antihistamines with zero improvements in my symptoms. I first met with the resident, who had an excellent bedside manner and agreed with me that he thought I was a candidate for ear tubes. Dr. Hales, however, was a completely different story. He blew off my symptoms and gaslighted me during the entire visit. He lied about the number of times ear infections had to occur for me to have ear tubes. He said that guidelines required seven ear infections to occur. The guidelines say differently. He made out that the ear tube procedure was dangerous when it is done with a local anesthetic in under 15 minutes in adults with minimal risks. To add insult to injury, he tried to gaslight me to make out like my symptoms were not that bad and even made a comparison to his brother, who had suffered with fluid in his ear… for over six months. He said his brother just allowed it to go away on its own. Like no one in their right mind would put up with suffering for that long of a period without seeking treatment. Then he told me to try antihistamines and decongestants. After I had already explained to him that I had tried those treatments and they were not working. Like I would not have come to his office if I was having success with either of those things or any other type of conservative treatment! I reiterated that to him. His response? Keep using Zyrtec. He's considered one of the best doctors in San Antonio. He is the best alright- the best at wasting your time and money. Also one of the best doctors at dismissing issues and gaslighting patients that I have ever encountered!

I was referred to Dr Hales for a thyroidectomy. I was very concerned as my symptoms were quite severe. Dr Hales just has this calm, confident, assuring personality, which together with his excellent surgical skills makes me very lucky to be one of his patients.

Bilingual, compassionate, never on a hurry to explain. I will recommend him always.

Dr. Nathan Hales performed surgery for oral squamous cell carcinoma on my husband. Dr. Hales was the most informative & attentive doctor. He truly has a gift for taking care of his patients. We do not know where we would be if we hadn't been referred to Dr. Hales. We highly recommend Dr. Hales & his clinic.

This website is out of date! Dr. Hales is in San Antonio, TX (for, like, 9 years!). I would suggest looking elsewhere.As for Dr. Hales, he performed my thyroid lobectomy last month. I was very pleased with his caring and compassion, always spending plenty of time with me to address concerns. The incision is small, I honestly don't know how he got my large mass and half my thyroid out through it! He seems to always be running at least 45 minutes behind, but he is worth the wait!
