Dr. Neal Andrew Sher, MD

My PRK took place back in 2007. Advancements in the procedure had just became possible. My correction was R-+3.50++3.00x85. L+3.25+3.25x85. which was a pretty good correction. I first had the left eye corrected. wearing a clear corrective lens on the right eye. After my left eye cleared and healed to a certain point-(I believe it was 6 weeks), I went in for my right eye correction. As I talked to the receptionist she found out that I still was wearing the contact lens on my right eye, which I was supposed to remove several days before to allow the natural curvature of my eye to take place before my correction. I had forgotten to do this because it took so much time for my left eye to stabilize. She called Dr. Sher in to consult who removed my lens and said he could get my correction close enough to proceed. Because my correction was so extreme it took several months, if not more than a year to see the real results. During this time I experienced significant glare from night lights… which took forever to go away. My current correction is: R +0.50 +0.50 52 +2.00. L +0.25 +0.25 90 +2.00. My right eye was always my good eye before the PRK procedure, but after the surgery my left eye is the one I can see better out of. I expected to at least see as well out of both eyes. I believe the poor correction resulted from the un-natural eye curvature caused by the lens being in my right eye up till right before surgery. The best thing eye care associates could have done was to have contacted me to remind me to take the clear lens out of my right eye a week before my surgery, which at that time they did not do. The next best thing for me as the patient was for Dr. Sher to have sent me home for a week and reschedule the surgery date. I believe he didn't do this because it would have negatively effected his bottom line. The difference in quality of correction bothered me enough to seek a right eye enhancement. I was told by Mayo Clinic the original correction was so extreme, they would not consider an enhancement. I went back to Eye care associates for the required full examination after which Dr. Sher went through a laundry list of all the possible negative effects of an enhancement, (clouding, infection, scarring). Isn't this the same risks associated with the original correction? What percentage of enhancement patients experience these side effects? Again, I believe primarily because it would have negatively effected ECA income. If it were Dr. Sher's eyes, he would have done a better job. At the time of my PRK, I paid a premium price for my vision correction surgery, but don't feel I receive premium service. I feel, in the end, I was done a dis service. I waited almost a year to write this review so i could be confident in the results of the PRK operation i had done by Dr. Sher. I can say, without a doubt, that my eyesight is now perfect and the procedure is absolutely worth doing. I have always had issues with nearsightedness (was -6 diopter when i had the surgery done) and was very wary of eye surgery as it has always freaked me out a bit, to be honest. What i liked most about Dr. Sher's practice (besides his experience) was that from the first day I met with him to the day of my surgery (and every appointment along the way) i dealt with the same 3 people. They knew my name, we developed a relationship, they performed the surgery together, and i was comfortable the entire time that they were competent and easy to deal with. He customized his after-procedure care to my specific circumstances, always answered my questions in detail, and in general was just great. While the surgery does cost quite a bit compared to Lasik deals you can… find, and there are a few days of moderate discomfort afterwards, I wouldn't have traded the experience i had. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Outstanding experience for a life-changing procedure with an excellent outcome. Dr. Sher is extremely qualified, as his extensive research and clinical experience, including multiple standing patents related to the procedure, speak for themselves. He is a good professional and treats you with respect as his patient. His staff is friendly and professional, as well, and do not raise any issues related to lack of competency. I had one minor issue related to a post-operative prescription not sent to the pharmacy as was discussed at the appointment. But all things considered, definitely not a deal breaker by any means. I would recommend pursuing his surgical services and care to anyone wishing to undergo laser corrective therapy.

I have been a patient of Dr. Sher's for over 35 years and have been totally satisfied with the care received. I have been treated for iritis, cataract surgeries and am now deal with glaucoma.

After 30 years or so of wearing glasses and contacts, thanks to Dr. Sher and his team I can finally see. From the initial consultation through the PRK procedure and into the post-operative care the experience was great.
