Dr. Neil Cleveland Porter, MD

Worst consultation by a specialist in my entire life. I consulted him for a peripheral nerve issue following a neck injury. Instead of looking into my issue, I was blindsided-he aggressively questioned me about a PTSD dx from a violent assault that happened decades ago, trying to link a simple nerve problem to this assault rather than the recent injury to my neck. I felt discriminated against. He was totally out of line, but what was most alarming was his irrational thinking and conclusions.

Took his time to explain everything. Called to check up on me.

From my experience Dr. Porter cares deeply for his patients and goes the extra mile by working late and rearranging his schedule when an emergency arises. We meet Dr Porter while visiting the Greenebaum Cancer Center for a second opinion/clincal trial options on my Dad's advanced stage cancer. When my dad presented to the oncologist we were visiting with some unexpected neurological symptoms, Dr Porter was called to examine my father. Dr. Porter recognized the urgency of the situation, arranged for an emergency MRI and stayed until late that evening to discuss the findings. We later learned he canceled his evening lecture/ class to examine my dad. Dr. Porter clearly puts patients first. Over the course of the next few weeks Dr. Porter coordinated palliative care and followed up with myself and my mother several times. Over the course of my fathers treatment from his original diagnosis to his passing only the staff at University of Maryland made us feel like my Dad's life… mattered and recognized the urgency that should accompany cancer treatment. My biggest regret is that we didn't visit University of Maryland from the beginning.

DR PORTER WAS PROFESSIONAL AND MADE AN ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS AND STARTED TREATMENT THANKS TO HIM I AM ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY. After over 18 doctors gave up on me Dr. Porter said he was going to find the problem and he did. Its because of him I'm walking again. I live in the mid-west now but I refuse to see any other doctor but him so I'll take the 13 hour drive or a flight to see him. This doctor cares about the patient. When my insurance was not active he told me to come in anyway even if he had to pay for it.

After several months of trying to figure out why my mother was getting dizzy, none of her doctors could figure out what was wrong with her so I took her to Dr. Neil Porter. He took the time to talk and listen and in one visit, he correctly diagnosed her and immediately sent her for the proper treatment. I don't know why anyone would give him a bad review. He's one of the best in my book!

Dr. Porter is very thorough. He demonstrates a real interest in solving my issues. I came to him for a second opinion and decided to make him my primary neurologists. He did not seem to have me on a 15 minute in=out schedule.Nor did he attempt to medicate the symptoms prior to researching what might be the underlying causes of my challenges I really appreciate a doctor, who takes the time to listen and explore beyond the qurstions on "form ###"

Doctor Porter often isn't in the office when his patients show up. Even if they've driven two hours to see him. He never follows up on calls to see how his patients are despite promising them he will. I don't recommend this doctor. He clearly doesn't care. Just take a number!
