Dr. Nicholas Carsten Brandt, MD

I was admitted as a patient to Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital through the ER by Dr Brandt for an infection in my spine. I have not seen nor heard from Dr Brandt since although I have asked numerous times for a visit and information about a plan of treatment but no response. I would not recommend him or seek him for medical care in the future.

My remarkable 98 year old father ended up in the hospital. While our first day experience was not good, on the second day Dr Brandt was our hospitalist. He spoke spoke to both my father and me, and, more importantly, he listened. When I had a concern over a prescribed medication, I asked if he had looked far enough back in my father's medical history to see a problem with a similar medication. He said he hadn't, but he would, and if he prescribed the medication I could rest assured that he had researched and felt very comfortable prescribing it. Just before discharge a new nurse had a concern that something was an acute rather than chronic condition. Dr Brandt spoke with me, and went to examine him again instead of just prescribing a drug he didn't need. His communication is excellent, and his compassion shows.
