Dr. Nicholas Alexander La Gamma, MD

First went to Dr La Gamma for my colonoscopy. Was so kind and very informative. Listened to my concerns and answered a multitude of questions. Previous colonoscopy (with another Dr)had polyps and an area of diverticulitis, and I had a banging headache before and after procedure. He assured me that I wouldn't repeat the headache problem and he would pay special attention to my past diagnosis. All was great...No headache, no polyps, but the diverticulitis was present. Fast forward 1 month and the diverticulitis reared its ugly head. After two bouts, I was over feeling horrible. It was obvious I was never going to get out of the spiral and would constantly be on antibiotics. So we developed a plan that included me going to my son's destination wedding to an island with NO Dr's. Armed with antibiotics and an all white diet (unfortunately didn't help with the wedding diet) but I stayed healthy long enough to get back home (Sunday), Blood work on Monday, prep on Wednesday, and… be operated on Thursday. His office was so sweet and helpful to make sure I had everything and had a full understanding of what I had to do and where I needed to be. The operation went right on schedule and everyone at the hospital was beyond kind. Dr La Gamma constantly was there over seeing my health and the nurses were so helpful. I had expectations of being in the hospital for a week, but was released Saturday afternoon. This Dr has this surgery down to the letter! The epidural that was administered before the surgery was a life saver and made it that I could manage pain with Tylenol and Aleve. The only time I took something stronger was at night. I did EVERYTHING he told me to and I recovered very well! Now I can go back to a healthy eating plan!

Dr. La Gama is an exemplary doctor and human being; He is caring, takes time to explain things and most importantly takes his job incredibly personally. We’re not just a number or name to him, we’re family. Like Share

Dr. LaGamma saved my mother's life. It all began when she was admitted to a small, local hospital and was diagnosed with a small bowel obstruction. The doctors put in an NG tube and said the obstruction would clear on its own. After four days of no improvement, my mother was transferred to North Shore at Manhasset. Upon arrival, her condition was deemed very serious and she needed emergency surgery. Of course, we were very upset and worried. One of our major concerns was who was the surgeon performing the surgery? Because this was an emergency situation, we didn't have the luxury of researching and finding the "best" surgeon, we had to take whoever we got and hope for the best. Well, God was smiling down on us when he sent Dr. LaGamma to my mother's bedside. He operated on my mother and although it turned out to be a very difficult operation, his level of skill, experience and confidence lead to a successful surgery. During her two week hospital stay, Dr. LaGamma was hands down the… best caretaker we have ever seen. I say caretaker because Dr. LaGamma is more than just a surgeon. He truly cared for my mother and we felt that he was personally invested in her recovery. He came to her room several times a day and even came in on his days off to check on her. Dr. LaGamma always took the time to explain her condition to us no matter how many questions and concerns we had. What really struck us about Dr. LaGamma was an interaction he had with a student nurse assigned to my mother. He spent about forty-five minutes giving a wonderful lesson to the student about my mother's surgery and condition. Dr. LaGamma has the unique combination of intelligence, skill, experience and personality. During my mother's two week hospital stay, we fell in love with Dr. LaGamma and had the utmost confidence in his ability as a surgeon. If you are looking for a surgeon, look no further - Dr. LaGamma is the BEST!!
