I had several procedures performed via open heart due to a congential condition I wasn't aware of until it nearly took my own life. My condition is HOCM. Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. I was very severe. Admitted on Friday the 13th of the month February 2015. Had surgery on ash Wednesday the 18th. After several tests and stabilizing me, Dr. Smedira met with me on the evening before to discuss specifically and calmly what his plan was. Besides a surgical myectomy (thinning of the heart muscle) he had to literally give a overhaul to both my Aortic Valve and Mitral Valve. Had a maze procedure and removal of the cardiac appendage to name a few. Without this man's expertise and knowledge I wouldn't be here. He and his staff go above and beyond any other medical facility. Special shout out to Dr. Collier and Dr. I. and all the nursing staff. I thank you from the bottom of my repaired heart. ??

I think he is wonderful,,,,,even though I continued smoking and had problems with my lungs.....he did a great job......the surgery went great, but I did not do what I should have done,,,,,, stop smoking......follow his instructions and do what you are suppose to do and you will be just fine. He is a wonderful doctor and handsome also.....thank you for giving my life back......Dr Smedira you are awesome.........thank you.....

Very open and honest in working with the patientWill give his recommendation but will respect yoursOperated on me twice, once for homograft heart valve and 9 years later to replace it.He told me the homograft would probably not make it 10 years due to my activity but did not want to go to coumadin. 2nd surgery went better then the first and was there for the surgery and stuck around for my recovery 12 hours later.He is the very definition of dedicated to his profession and his patiets. I would highly recommend him.
