Dr. Nikolas Peter Symbas

Dr Symbas is one of the kindest and thorough doctors ever. He takes time with you and explains things so you can understand your options. A great physician.

Went to see Dr. Symbas on a referral from my internist and he looked at my labs and told me within 5 seconds that I didn't need what my Dr. had sent me for. (my number was barely within minimal limits, but very low when age adjusted) He did find that I had a large kidney stone though, but encouraged me to wait 2 months to have it treated when they got a new lithotripsy technology. I was concerned at waiting, but he assured me there would be no delay and that my outcome would be better than with the current technology. 5 months later I am still not treated and the hospital says it may be next year before they get the new device. I'm going elsewhere to find someone who cares about taking care of their patient.

My husband and I are very pleased with Dr Symbas! He has been taking care of us for a year now. He is warm and kind and listens very well! He takes the time to explain in detail what I want to know. I have the utmost confidence in him and I will soon be having surgery by him! Thankful I found him!

Got infection from a procedure. Been on antibiotics for a year and a half

I came to Dr. Symbas with severe symptoms (inability to urinate, pain, etc.). He did not do any diagnostics, heard that I had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis, and then completely blew me off. He asked me, "do you have headaches too?". He recommended a laxative, pilates, yoga and physical therapy. He did not do any sort of tests, only a very quick examination. Basically told me that the pain was neurological and not really something he could help me with immediately. He didn't want to address my inability to urinate, or my pain which I had been struggling with for 2 weeks! I ended up going to Northside emergency room, where they were able to cath me, and removed over 2 bags of urine! They detected an infection, that had been ongoing for a few weeks that the first round of antibiotics didn't treat. They also noted how swollen, irritated, and essentially blocked my urethra and bladder had become. They were able to give me medication to ease my bladder spasms, and cleared out… my urethra. I now am sore, but at least have the ability to urinate. My pain is lessening. When I told them at the ER what the urologist recommended they were aghast. If I was leaking urine, I understand about strengthening my pelvic floor. I also think it's a great idea to do so as a preventative measure in the future. However, at that time I left Dr. Symbas office with a feeling of helplessness, and absolutely no assistance in relieving my immediate problem. He didn't even attempt to do any diagnostic tests or even test my urine. I felt he just wrote me off when he heard about my having endometriosis, which he said, no one really understands. I'm sure he's a good doctor when it comes to male health problems or cancer, but I would not recommend him to any female has an immediate urological problem. I don't think I'll be back to Wellstar or Kennestone any time soon

Great Doc, with a great staff

Doctor Symbas spent very little time with my 17-year-old son and basically ushered us out of the patient room as if he couldn't spare another minute. I've had to contact the office for follow-up, and I can absolutely never get an attendant on the phone. I held over 15 minutes one time and 10 another before finally hanging up. Finally I got through 10 minutes later - on the third call! Calls were not returned promptly, and when they were returned, they were not returned on the phone number I provided. Finally, I gave the information I needed to the person I spoke to. The call was returned asking for the very information I already provided. Beyond frustrating and ridiculous. This office needs a LOT of TLC, but this is my general experience with WellStar overall, so . . . .

Office staff especially the triage coordinator is very disrespectable to older senior person.

This physician exemplifies what you would expect from a person who went into medicine to help people. A refreshing step back to days long gone, where the physician took the time with a patient and cared about the health and well-being of the patient! My daughter had previous renal issues as a child and he took her on as a patient. He did not drag things out, he got only the tests that were needed to give him quick yet accurate and reliable results. He spent the time with my 16-yr-old and explained the alternatives to her in a way she understood. He was thorough, great beside manner and seemed quite genuine in his care and concern for my child and her treatment. And while I know he went "outside the box" accepting my 16-yr-old into his usually adult only practice, for which I am eternally grateful, I cannot say enough about what a practical, efficient, yet warm and friendly physician this man was. His staff was also very friendly, which made for a wonderful environment when… visiting the office.
