I never worry about visiting Dr Nilsa Leiva she is so nice and caring. Some time ago I was in hospital and her husband, Dr Lloyd Leiva visited me every day. I cannot recommenced this practice too much, both Doctors are marvelous.

I have 3 complaints against this Dr. and her staff. From least serious to most serious, they are: On my motherâ??s last office visit, she signed in correctly but was left in the waiting room for over 2 hours because the staff didnâ??t enter her into their system. About 14 months ago, while my Mom was in an examining room, the bldg. was evacuated due to a gas leak. Dr. and staff evacuated but Mom was left in the exam room until much later when a fireman found her. Dr. had Mom on a medication that necessitates regular monitoring of potassium levels in the elderly (Mom is 81) because it can hinder the kidneys ability to clear excess potassium. Dr. kept refilling the prescription for over one year without seeing Mom. Momâ??s potassium levels rose to a point that most experts, including the NIH, state is a medical emergency due to the risk of death from heart failure, and recommend hospitalization to aggressively lower the potassium levels. The Dr.â??s response: the nurse called Mom to… tell her to stop eating foods high in potassium, with no explanation other than â??your levels are elevatedâ?? .. no mention of the cause: the medication.

Dr. Nilsa Leiva is the most caring and easiest to talk to of any Doctor I have ever seen in 65 years. She spends whatever time is needed with me, so if I have to wait in the office, I know it is because she is doing the same for someone else. She has a way of asking questions that has you telling her things you'd rather not, and would not have with a less discerning doctor.
