Dr. Nora Marie Hymowitz, MD

Dr. Hymowitz is nice at first and seems promising, but after one or two sessions, it becomes evident that she doesn't really have the ability to empathize with patients. I had maybe 5-6 sessions with her and I felt that she just couldn't connect and didn't really seem to care about what I was saying. I also noticed that when I would ask her questions, she didn't really have a straight answer and would sort of dance around the question in trying to give a response. At times she would make facial gestures that appeared to be an effort to mimic facial expressions of concern or understanding; however, they appeared fake and not genuine. Personally, I would not recommend her to someone who is looking for a genuine empathetic therapist to talk to.

I was caught off guard by her inability to connect or care. It matters because to get a total picture of a patient you have to be able to empathize. When you are going to somebody for help, talking to someone who does not care is offensive and deepens feelings worthlessness. I also always felt patronized and condescended to. Her education is incredibly impressive. It obviously impresses her. She gave me a diagnosis and meds. They didn't help. I left and went to a different doctor who helped. I have no hard feelings. She's a smart woman. I don't see the point in getting health care from someone who is not capable of caring about the health of others.

At first I really liked this doctor, she seemed flexible, but after three appointments with her I have realized that unfortunately she doesn't really care about her patients. It seems like she just wants to meet with them, and then isn't prepared or organized enough in the appointment and ready to ask the right questions to help. I think she needs more experience, but is qualified with her education. I recommend seeing someone who has had more patients.
