I saw Dr. Hearst on May 2, 2025, only because my PCP was out of the office, I needed immediate care and medication for my pain. Up until then I had only received the best of care at the UCSF Lakeshore location. So I didn't give a second thought to seeing an alternate provider. Dr. Hearst came to my appointment with no knowledge of why I was even there. It was to examined and for a pain medicine prescription. Still, with no knowledge of why I had come he immediately refuse to prescribe me pain medicine and never even suggested a physically examination. He could have given me anything or suggested anything to alleviate my pain and I would have been satisfied with that. If Dr. Hearst had familiarized himself with my files instead of just making assumptions, he would have learned I was scheduled for neck surgery in just a few weeks. He would have also learned of my strong dislike for narcotics and that during previous hospitalizations I consistently turned down pain medication, even… after surgery. Dr. Hearst, in my case, was not at all a good listener and constantly cut me off, not allowing me to get a word in. I cut my appointment short and left in tears. Still in pain, I went to UCSF's ER, where I was treated with dignity and respect. I later learned that Dr Hearst managed to carve out time to file a false and infuriating after visit summary, where he implied I was a drug addict who came there only to seek narcotics. I can honestly say that in my 60 years of life, my appointment with Dr Hearst was one of the five worst appointments I've ever had with a physician.

Dr.Hearst struggled to find a tongue depressor even though the drawers were all labeled. When he opened the drawer labeled "tongue depressors" he didn't see the ones that were right in there! So he went to another room to get one. He touched the door knob atleast twice before touching the tongue depressor with his hand and putting it in my mouth. He could have worn gloves or cleaned his hands before putting that tongue depressor into my mouth. I honestly don't know how somebody can be a doctor when they can't do simple things like finding an item in a labeled drawer and cleaning their hands or wearing gloves. Dr.Hearst also told me that the bumps on the back of my tongue were a viral infection. When I went to the dentist, he informed me that the bumps are just taste buds.
