Dr. Norman William Mayer, MD

My mom went to Dr Mayer on the referral of her Dr. she has had severe back issues along with other debilitating issues for the past two years. Due to this she has a very hard time of getting around without help. Her meds also make this harder for her. First off he asked why she was even there —well she was referred so why wouldn’t she think he might be able to help or point her in the right direction. Then he asked why she was in a wheelchair in a very short tone—because the hospital is large and hard for her to walk without shortness of breath and my Dad has a hard time helping her so this was the easiest way to get around while there. I’m not sure why this would even be asked, especially in that manner. He didn’t examine anything or even try to show he cared —said I guess you can find your way out and left them in the room by themselves. My Dad said after all the doctors over the years this was the weirdest experience he has ever had. No one should be treated this way —and while… this was just an appt to him this was a glimmer of hope for my mom that has spent two years in turmoil. My parents are good people who have spent their lives working hard and helping others—to have them come home and feel how they did after this appt makes me so upsett. Everyone deserves compassion and even if you don’t care you can fake it long enough to get through an appt. No one has the right to act arrogant or make someone feel like they are beneath them.i have sat on this and refrained from posting for almost a month but to here them say before each appt “I dread going, I hope this Dr doesn’t act like that last one” makes me upset all over again. I hope this was just a bad day and others are treated better but I am very disappointed in the care they received.

Dr. Mayer is above excellent in surgical skills. He is a kind and compassionate doctor.

Dr. Mayer contended with my insurance company for months to get my surgery approved. I could barely walk before the surgery. The first time I got up out of the recovery room, I knew the surgery was a success. I could walk! I have every confidence in Dr. Mayer's skills as an excellent surgeon.

he was my fathers doctor and my father had brain cancer and he was the best doctor I have seen he even attended my fathers funeral and was so nice he felt like a friend even a family member it really meant something to me and my family that he cared that much.
