Dr. Odel Ruano, MD

This doctor added a false diagnosis of Alzheimer's on my mother's chart, based solely on the fact that she was taking a low dose of Aricept as a preventive measure, prescribed by a psychiatrist. He refused to evaluate her in any way, or listen to the reason for it, he just jumped to the conclusion, and stuck to it. He doesn't like being questioned, doesn't listen to concerns. He then refused to continue seeing my mom after she left the rehab, and even made it so she was refused admission into a nursing home where he is a board member. We made an appointment with another doctor, who happened to work at the same medical group. We were told that my mother's "ship had sailed" and she had to go find a doctor elsewhere, no doctor who worked in his whole BUILDING could see her! Now a third doctor has cancelled an appointment citing that she has to be "approved" before the doctor would see her, even though nobody said anything about that at the time they booked the appointment. I get… the feeling she's being blackballed. She's almost out of meds and has no doctor to renew her scripts, and the next new patient appointment with a new provider is at least 2 months out. This man is just cruel. Cruel.

Dr. Ruano had complete medical information on me before the appointment. Listened carefully to my questions and provided understandable and sensible advice. One of the most caring and kind doctors I have met. Works closely with an excellent Nurse Practitioner who provided continuity in my health care.

I refuse to address him as a "doctor". He supposedly visits and treats residents at a Charlotte County Nursing Home. I had tried on several occasions to meet with him, regarding my loved one, but was avoided every time. The only way to communicate with him is through his PA and he will not listen to family concerns. I get the impression that he really doesn't care about the elderly. My loved one had to be treated outside the facility in order to get proper care. My heart goes out to those residents who don't have anyone to watch over them and protect them from someone like Ruano. Please, do not seek treatment from him. Find yourself a good "Doctor"

Has pre conceived ideas. Does not let patient speak or give explanations or further details of ailments. Asks questions and then does not wait for answers, offering instead his diagnosis without getting the complete information from the patient. Bedside manner is rude and blunt. Is impressed with his own body of knowledge while yet getting things wrong.
