Dr. Oliver Dewitt Gilliam, MD

The comments under the bad ratings echo what I have found. I was hospitalized with diverticulitis Post colonoscopy I need numerous attempts to reach their on-call physician and had to go to emergency room. In six hours I received no call back. Whether it's his staff or him , there was no concern over my hospitalization nor their neglect for an on-call physician.

My experience with Dr. Gilliam was fairly ok. I had a severe gastrointestinal issue that was complicated and difficult to diagnose. During my first few visits, Dr. Gilliam was patient and helped me well. But when my symptoms didn't seem to be going away, I went back to see him a few more times. It was during this time that Dr. Gilliam's attitude towards me changed. He became reluctant to see me each time I would visit. If he could remain good even when your issue lingers, then he'd be a good doctor.

I didn't have a follow-up....quite confusing

Approx 1 year ago was seen by Dr. Gilliam with acute lower abdominal pain, sent home & told to drink Prune juice, 3 days later in ER with Acute Diverticulitis which resulted in colon surgery for removal of my sigmoid colon done at UIC. Returned this month due to bloating and stomach pain, he literally "blew me off" saying there's nothing wrong with me and to quit using my "Statin's" (I have many hearted related issues and stopping these drugs could be very dangerous). In my opinon this Doctor needs to retire, just goes through the motions but has been no help at all and I've given him a second chance. I wouldn't recommend him to ANYONE!!!

The first time I met Dr. Gilliam, I believe his diagnosis had been affected by my family physician, (who seemed to be tired of seeing me for numerous complaints). I went back to see him at a later date, and he was a very different man. He listened to my cocerns and was caring and concered. Within a week, I had been tested and was on medication for H-Pylori, which can cause ulcers and even cancer.

I had a sigmoidoscopy by Dr. Gilliam.He did an excellent job....very gentle.
