Dr. Onur Melen, MD

I was referred by my neurologist to Dr. Melen for possible Giant Cell Arteritis, which is a serious condition if left untreated. Dr. Melen is a senior doctor with a wealth of knowledge that is very impressive. He took good care of me and spent quite a bit of time doing his best to provide his opinion to the other specialists. I had severe headaches and temporary vision loss, so I was not in the best mood, but the doctor remained very nice. I definitely believe Dr. Melen is a great doctor!

Dr. Melen knows what other doctors don't know. When I came to him with dystonia of speech, he asked if these symptoms happened all at once or gradually built up. I said the symptoms happened very suddenly. He said several times, "you're sure they happened suddenly?" This meant the symptoms had their origin in my emotions--they were not a result of any progressive illness or medication. Many doctors don't know this.

Dr. Melen was wonderful. He was concerned, took all the time in the world with me and recommended an excellent course of treatment. He is highly recommended by me!!

I would highly recommend Dr Melen to anyone. I had third nerve palsey, diplopia & ptosis of the eyelid, some of which was caused by having 3 brain surgeries. My eyelid completely closed when I looked certain directions which other doctors couldn't figure out why, so 1st he did proper testing to see if my eyelid would stay open if surgery was done. I ended up having the surgery & afterwards, you couldn't even tell I had surgery. There were no scars, you couldn't tell I had stitches & there was only a very small speck of bruising which you couldn't even see unless you were looking for it. My eyelid is normal now & stays open when I look those directions.

Dr. Melon spent a lot of time with me and I felt did an outstanding job with examination. He was very calm and did not seem rushed in any way. I would recommend him.

I saw Dr. Melen on the referral of my Neurologist for vision loss. He did a lot of tests and then told me to get glasses. He didnt bother to take the time to look at my tests on CD that i brought him and NEVER called me back to discuss anything or set a plan of care. It took him 3 weeks to get back to my neurologist. I am very disappointed in the care i didnt recieve from this doctor and his staff. I will NEVER return to see Dr. Melen

I like his approach to managing medications for Parkinson's Disease. It's not "let's try this one" and then another, but an approach based on years of experience with patients with the disease. He listens and responds to what I have to say.

He was very rude. When I tried to explain my symptoms he said I was making it up and suggested that I see a psychiatrist. At the same time he refused to even look at my $5000.00 MRI test CD. He said his computer would not open it because the test was performed in another hospital. That is absolutely not true - the CD can open at any PC.
