Dr. Oscar Horacio Irigoyen, MD

I would give no star if I could. After waiting three months for the appointment, I have to agree with other reviews here. He is very rude and unprofessional. I have problems with my legs and feet swelling and have been to too many doctors for answers. Primary recommended him and after walking from train my legs were so swollen I could of cried. He looked at them and said it was not a rheumatology problem, that I was just FAT. Then proceeded to tell me about a diet they were offering at Jefferson, Optifast. Now instead of a nutritional program Jefferson was offering a liquid DIET. When I protested he said will maybe they are a little swollen-I got out of there and will not go back to another Jefferson Doctor.

Oscar Irigoin is the worst doctor I have ever been too. I have been diagnosed with Lupus since 1997. I was healthy, functioning person. I began getting sick in 2007. Oscar Irigoin neglect to properly treat his patients is a disgrace!!! He is the only rhematogist that does not do steroid injections or offer infusions. He believes in heavy pain medication and send you on your way. He does not offer emergency visits when your sick. He is also too busy to fill out disability paper work, he will refer your insurance co or social security office to look at his notes. I thought it was me, when I went for a second opinion I found out how horrible he really is. I truly believe I would be dead or permanently in bed for the rest of my life with this doctor. It's a disgrace that Jefferson lets him work there. My only hope is new patients will read this and not go down the road I did. Stay away from this doctor, HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HIS PATIENTS, SO NIT LET THIS DR FRANKENSTEIN TAKE… CARE OF YOU!!!

This is to second the review given about the rudeness and un-professional manner of the office staff at the Bala Cynwid office.Whether face to face or by telephone they are rude, unprofessional and just act as they don't want to be doing what they are doing..of course they are useless at telling you that your doctor is going to be an hour or more late, and when you ask; God forbid why did you ask, they don't know anything of course!!I have been in two occasions to the office now and in both of them I had to wait about an hour and a half to see the doctor, of course nobody tells you that they're sorry but you're going to have to wait a bit...and first time some doctor was ill, second time computer problem..etcFor Dr. Irigoyen as an initial opinion, he seems nice and attentive when you actually get to see him but calling to give me results back doesn't seem to be be strongest point both times, and thus I have to deal with the "lovely" NOT receptionist. And to think that I'm paying for… this service.

I was tested for positive with Lupus. I went to Dr. Irigoyen, he told me it was false positive based on his experience, and or opinion. I told him there is something not right around my nails, loss of cuticles, thickened and peeling skin. He did not want to be bothered to run any other tests. He told me in his own words to go home put on a pair of gloves and forget about it. Since then I went to another rheumatologist to get another opnion, which confirmed I have Lupus and scleriderma localized on my skin. How they could make this Dr. the Chief is beyond my comprehension!!!!

I wanted to warn anyone who is considering Dr. Irigoyen as their physician. He is a fantastic doctor and is everything you would want in a rheumatologist. However, the office staff is TERRIBLE at the Philadelphia location. It is impossible to get a call back from Dr. Irigoyen because the message is never relayed to him. Also, the staff is absolutely incompetent in processing insurance, scheduling appointments outside of regular visits and receiving or sending information to other physicians. They also hang up the phone on you if your issue is complex or if they feel like YOU are not courteous to them. They will also make up stories and excuses as to why things were not done. (ie. claim forms, communicating with other medical staff, etc...) I also warn you that they are very rude and act as though they are doing you a favor. Please be aware that this is regarding to the office staff only. If you have any problems with them, report it to Dr. Irigoyen and to the Jefferson Department of… Medicine. Trying to talk to the office manager is like talking to a recorded message.
