Dr. Pamela Pember Bruce, MD

Dr Bruce, her office staff, Kara, Suzanna, and Katie are a wonderful group of girls. Very professional with personal attention. My perception of the two procedures - gastroscopy/colonoscpy couldn't have been any more off the mark. From the prep to the completion of the procedures could not have been any easier. My sincere thank you to Dr Bruce and Kara for the repeated nudge.

Dr. Bruce has a very nice bedside manner. You feel she is listening to you and she has a very caring manner. Where she falls down on the job is in her explaining procedures and possible side effects. I was having a colonoscopy and also hemerooid banding. During our consult, she made it sound like a very simple procedure with nothing really of any concern. She never mentioned a pain issue, in fact pain from the procedure never came up. When I got to hospital for procedures, the staff was clueless that I was also having hemeroid banding along with colonoscopy. It was apparent the message had never gotten to staff at hospital. I wondered if Dr. Bruce had forgotten we were also doing hemeroind banding?? After the procedure I was not sent home with any written instructions regarding the hemeroid banding, just verbal comment to expect some slight bleeding and if I bled more than a half cup, go to emergency room immediately. The day I got home I was fine, probably because I was… still on anesthesia. That night, after I went to bed I woke about 3:00 am in the worst pain I've ever been in in my life. I was practically crying it hurt so bad. I was wondering why I was never told I might experience this kind of pain? I got up and could barely walk, and could not sit without excruciating pain. I laid in bed and googled hemeroind banding. It said it was "the most painful surgery there is" and a person would probably not be able to walk or sit without pain. This possibility had never been mentioned. When I spoke w/ Dr. Bruce's nurse she was very kind and asked me if I'd taken "the pain medication" to which I replied "none was ever prescribed". She seemed surprised. We got everything sorted out and with some over the counter products I was able to alleviate the major pain, but I really felt like somewhere along the line the ball had been dropped. I will probably go back to Dr. Bruce for colonoscopy, but nothing else. I don't trust that their procedures are in place for proper instructions before and after any major surgery.

I wish there were more Doctors with the same bedside manner that Dr Bruce has. She is very easy to converse with. She has a very caring manner between herself and her patients. I recommend her to anyone who is seeking a surgeon.
