Should have seen the red flags, have to pay upfront and no insurance would be accepted. Paid close to $5000 upfront to wear a device that was actually changing my bite to the point I couldn’t chew to eat. When I questioned this she just shrugged her shoulders and say yes that is probably happening. I was done felt taken advantage of and left. Horrible experience felt totally scammed.

They won't fix your problem, it's just temporary relief and they don't tell you that you'll have to keep using the device the rest of your life. They made it seem like this was comparable to surgery which in the end was what recommended by the dentist that the doctor refers you to. Also if they forget to submit your claim that you paid upfront for it is not their responsibility even though they make it seem they are taking care of it for you. Be careful because at first they seem so caring but really they don't care about their patients just the $5,000 they make off each one. I trusted them with my money for my health and shouldn't have.

During treatment, the clear part of my $4000 appliance broke. I asked if I could have it fixed. The assistant said no because the wire inside would prevent it from cracking all the way, and she did not want to add any bulk to the appliance because it would be uncomfortable to me. The sharp edges were more uncomfortable, but I regrettably did not push it. I wore it every night for almost 4 years, and it finally completely broke in half, wire and all. I called to get it fixed and she said it would be $2000. If they would have just taken the time to fix their mistake in the first place, it wouldn't have been a bigger issue later. The assistant went on to say, what did I expect, it was almost 4 years old. I had been told it was capable of lasting 30 years. I am so disappointed in the treatment I received. I am familiar in this field, having previously been a dental hygienist. The assistant was so unprofessional and rude. A little understanding would have gone a long way with me.… I made a big mistake going to this office and her staff.

I wish i could give zero stars! I wish i would’ve listened to other reviews and i wish i wouldn’t listened to my intuition! I was young and feel she took advantage of me. Before treatment, i asked her if the results were reversible (like if my pain got worse from it, would i eventually go back to my normal pain) and she kept acting like she didn’t understand my question. She’s very shady. I should’ve quit right then. It gave me a weird feeling. I’ve suffered since i was a child with teeth grinding, my jaw is not straight and i have arthritis in both jaw joints. I believe she KNEW she couldn’t help me but took almost $4,000 from me anyway. One of the WORST decisions I’ve made in my life was seeing Dr. Pamela Steed.

I wore a Dr. Steed appliance for 6 months in 2009. Initially I didn't have symptoms other than popping and grinding. We were referred to her in order to be proactive about things. I was only a freshman in high school so I wasn't doing my own research and we naively assumed this treatment was the gold standard. After wearing the appliance for 6 months, my teeth had shifted upwards. Dr. Steed assured us with time, they'd all come back into place and my bite would be normal. Only the right half of my teeth came back down and there is a small gap between all my left teeth. It didn't cause problems at first. A few years later I went back to her when the pain started and she took X-rays. She noted that my lower jaw was worn down (from all the grinding and clenching on an uneven bite!!) but said the joint looked okay and she couldn't do anything. Now 10 years later, my face is literally distorted!! My right masseter muscle (and therefore cheek) is huge from doing all the work because only… those teeth are consistently hitting. When I try to even things out and chew on my left side, I'm in awful pain as my jaw in moving all wonky. My teeth no longer align straight (the bottom jaw sits naturally pulled towards the right) and my entire face has a slight deviation because of this. It's not noticeable if you aren't familiar with it but I certainly can tell. I have tried physical therapy, day needling, had dozens of night guards made and now am pursuing botox to try and calm down those right sided muscles. I feel I am in a way worse off position following Dr. Steeds treatment and I know that this will be a regret and issue I live with for the rest of my life.

I am very happy with my treatment from Dr. Steed. The office and clinical staff are excellent also. Dr. Steed is hilarious, smart, careful, and has honed her technique, and has helped many, many people with TMJ.

I was referred to Dr. Steed for TMJ by an ENT who saw me for something entirely unrelated. I was not having any pain or problems other than the usual clicking and popping. I was trying to be proactive. After seeing Dr. steed she made an appliance that was so ill-fitting that I couldn't chew properly and would bite my cheek and tongue while trying to eat. Occasionally I would choke on my food. The appliance sloshed up and down when I chewed. After a week I noticed that I was getting muscle spasms and tingling in my cheek. I didn't have a follow up appointment until 3 1/2 weeks later. I called the office because I felt I was getting worse but thought that may be normal, that you get worse before you get better. No one returned my call. When I had my appointment the assistant seemed concerned and spent 40 minutes grinding down the thick part behind my front teeth so I could swallow more normally and tightening it so it wouldn't slosh up,and down so much. However, my mouth… opened 8 mm less than before I started treatment. When I asked about it Dr. Steed said it was because I'd been taking the appliance out for 2 15 minutes a day to eat (I was wearing it the other 23 1/2 hours) and that "is like picking a scab, it starts to heal and then you pick it off". I left determined to be complaint and where it no matter what, then I started talking to people with appliances and asking them if they had TMJ too and if they saw Dr. Steed. I was consistently told that she had made things worse for them and to seek another dentist. I phoned my dentist, internist, and oral,surgeon to see what they thought. They had heard mixed reviews with some referring lots,of,patients to her. I asked if they ever followed up,with those patients and they told me that Dr. Steed sends them a follow up letter. I then asked for a copy of my records and received the letter she sent to my dentist, internist and ENT. It describes my condition, her plan, and basically thanks them for the referral and notes that she'll keep them apprised of my progress. I assure you none of them knew I had gotten worse and now had jaw and muscle pain that I didn't have before. It seems their is a huge disconnect between some of the medical professionals impression of her and the "man on the street". Without exception every lay person or past patient told me they were extremely disappointed with her treatment and felt she did more harm than good. I'm confident Dr. Steed helps some patients, but those of us with occulusions issues should seek treatment elsewhere.
