I went to the ER due to bad pain and ringing in my left ear. The DR diagnosed me with an inner ear infection and irritation in my left ear canal. The wait time at this ER was incredibly low, no one was there, and the staff and the DR were very friendly and accomodating. The issue I had was she prescribed me Sulfameth as my antibiotic. Over the weekend my right ear began hurting and got stuffy and come Monday it was getting worse, not better. I went to my PCP and he said Sulfameth is a great antibiotic for unrinary tract infections but not ear infections. He gave me a Z-Pack and suggested I see an ENT since this "is the worst I've seen in years". The ENT asked about everything that led up to my appointment and when I mentioned Sulfameth, he too said "well, it'll help great for urination, but will do nothing for your ear infection."3 days after being on the Z-pack the pain is gone, and I've regained some hearing in my left ear. The ENT said it will probably be next week before I… regain full hearing. Great bedside manner by the Dr Logan, I'm just curious why she would prescribe me an antibiotic that both my PCP and and ENT say are great for urinary tract infections, but will do nothing for ear infections?
