Summary

Dr. Rogers is a creative and enthusiastic educator who has made significant contributions to the teaching mission of the university. She serves as a mentor and faculty preceptor for numerous residents in the Department of Pediatrics as well as medical students, acting interns, and nurse practitioners. She has contributed to the implementation of curricular improvements, and also developed a resource for both Pediatrics and Family Medicine clinics entitled "Pats Pearls" that is used by the house staff to address specific clinical topics. Her extensive activities in teaching include serving as a mentor for the Renee Laennec Osler Student Society. In recognition of her exemplary teaching, Dr. Rogers received the Teacher of the Year Award of Excellence from the residents of Family Medicine for 2000-2001, the Department of Pediatrics Golden Rattle Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching in 2005. She was one of the inaugural recipients of the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award in 2005, and was inducted into the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers in 2007. In 2009 the UT Board of Regents named her a Distinguished Teaching Professor for making significant contributions to education. She also received the Pediatric Educator Award for excellence in Medical Student Education. Dr. Rogers is a gifted and caring pediatrician with a special affinity for child health and advocacy. She has been listed among the Best Doctors in America from 2006-2010. Sought locally for her leadership, Dr. Rogers has served on the Board of Directors for the Galveston County Health District since 2003, and continues to be active in the Galveston community through her participation in numerous health related activities. She received the Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award for her important contributions in promoting equity within the UTMB community. After graduation from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Rogers earned her MD degree from The University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Memphis in 1981. Following completion of her residency training at UTMB in Pediatrics as Chief Resident, Dr. Rogers spent 13 years in private practice in Plano, Texas. She returned to UTMB in 1998 as a faculty member in the Departments of Pediatrics and Family Medicine and continues to lead as well as serve on various committees at UTMB. Statewide, she is active with the Texas Pediatric Society. Nationally, she has been active with various organizations and currently serves as a "key contact" for legislative issues involving healthcare reform with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
