Dr. Patrick C Hsieh, MD

I recently saw Dr. Hseih at Keck Medical Center on a referral from Kaiser in hopes of being seen sooner. We waited over 2 hours for the "king" to enter only after his PA or NP came in with her iPad and asked me many questions. She was pleasant. He eventually came in and addressed my husband and turned to me and curtly asked what I was doing there. I answered that I came in hopes of getting help for my back problems. He sharply said that there was nothing he could do for me and that I should just go home and lose weight and take narcotics for the pain since I was on blood thinners. My husband is a physician and I am an RN. He criticized Kaiser every chance he got. He never examined me nor did he go over x-rays or MRIs that were done. He was arrogant and impressed with himself. He spent all of 5 minutes in the room. It was a most troubling visit. On the insistence of my primary physician, I returned to the Kaiser Spine center and had a much different diagnosis and experience.… I will have surgery there. I would not recommend that anyone see Dr. Hsieh. It was shameful.

I had back surgery done by Dr Hseih about four years ago @ Keck. I am in excellent health but had a herniated disc L4/5 which did respond to non surgical therapy. Dr Hseih placed at spacer at that level and fixed by spine at that level via minimally invasive technique. I have been perfect since and had no issues with my back since. As a physician living and practicing in the OC, I spent a lot of time and effort researching and learning about my surgical options. I interviewed and was examed by as least four neurosurgeons in southern California before chosing Dr Hseih. While Dr Hseih bedside manner could be slightly improved, his surgical opinion and technique are top flight. When chosing a surgeon the single most important aspects are their skill and judgement. Dr Hseish is expectional in my opinion and I have highly recommended him to both my friends and patients. He is not a "hand holder" which in my experience is not a common characteristic is most excellent surgeon.… They tend to be focused on their craft. In the end it is the result that matters and I had an excellent result with surgery done by Dr Hseih.

This doctor was recommended to me by physician friends of mine. This was my third major back surgery. While waiting for surgery my back broke the doctor had to contend with both my original problem and the broken back. The doctor was very Frank with me about my prognosis. He was right on with his assessment. The surgery was very successful I went from being on 75 mg of morphine three times a day to no pain medicine at all and little discomfort. The only difficulty I had was my post-operative Hospital stay was the most painful I have had. I'm not sure if that was totally in my Dr control or if it was partially because of the hospital. I would recommend this doctor to anybody lucky enough to get him.

I was previously in the military and have been in hospitals all over the world. I have had 4 prior surgeries on my spine all with little relief. This past week I had a spinal fusion with Dr Hsieh at Keck USC. He was AMAZING and the care I received is the best I have ever had anywhere. There are no words I can use to express the depth of my gratitude towards Dr. Hsieh and his team.

Dr. Hsieh did not examine me AT ALL. He didn't check my range of motion or muscle strength. There was no discussion about past injuries or past surgeries. He seemed to believe he knew everything by viewing my images which were more than a year old. I'm not even sure that he reviewed my images because he did not do it in my presence. I had no opportunity to point out things that were a concern to me. I believe Dr. Hsieh gave me information that was medically unsound. I believe that he did this, and had a dismissive attitude towards me, as retaliation for an ongoing complaint I have with his alma mater and doctors who are likely acquaintances, if not close colleagues. Good health care in the United States is a bad joke.

Th d I age wait time was unacceptable. ..first in the waiting room and then in the exam room. Them the nurse came in a interviewed me ...another wait...another finally the doctor made an entrance (no apology). He gave me a diagnosis with no physical exam in less than 5 minutes.

Dr. Hsieh performed a 9 hour surgery on my spine to remove a large tumor. He was confident but realistic in explaining the risks and outcomes resulting from the tumor and surgery. I am walking and active just 3 months later. I am not saying this has been easy, but if it had not been for Dr. Hsieh's experience and talent, my health would be far from where it is today. Another surgeon had given me odds that were dismal. I am thankful I was referred to Dr. Hsieh.

after hearing of a tumor on his spinal cord, my son was terrified. Dr. Hsieh was professional, knowledgable, and reassuring.

First Neurosurgeon I saw could not do my operation but Dr. Hsieh good and thanks to him I can continue walking.

needless to say any surgery you are apprehensive but brain, neck or spine surgery is a scary situation no matter how much faith you have in god or the doctor you feel God has led you to. Dr. Hsieh and his staff are exceptional. I could go on and on but bottom line is Efficient, Caring,Knowledgeable, Exceptional, Compassionate, Not In it For the Money. Gives you other alternatives to surgery and just AWESOME!
