Dr. Patrick James Louis, MD

I recently drank out of a new can of soda, and without warning some repulsive white chunky stuff came out of it. I got so sick that I dislocated my jaw! Since I live in Huntsville I tried to find an Oral Surgeon there to help me but the surgens in Huntsville told me that Dr. Louis in Birmingham Alabama was the best, and they were right. The KIRKLAND CLINIC got me right in to see Dr. Louis. Dr. Louis tried a less invasive way. He gave me muscle relaxants and steroids to get it to correct itself, but to no avail. So, he said he could fix it in surgery. Since I have a very severe issue to deal with whenever I have surgery, i am always nervous. I have Malignant Hyperthermia, which basically means that I am severely allergic to the usual medication they use to put me to sleep. Because of that, I had to have my surgery at UAB MAIN. And, just like Dr. Louis they were amazing. He made sure that he got my jaw back in place, and he was there for me every step of the way afterwards. I am very… happy with my entire experience at the KIRKLAND CLINIC and UAB MAIN. I would recommend him to anyone who has issues with their jaw! Thank you Dr. Louis!

I visited Dr. Louis on Jan.2, 2019 for a second opinion consult for my TMJ pain and symptoms. I have never been a patient at UAB, and I found the check-in process efficient and easy. I was called back very quickly after filling out some brief paperwork. A resident came in first go over my history and symptoms. He was very attentive and gave a thorough examination. Then Dr. Louis came in and he too was attentive and engaging. He, too performed a thorough exam. The reason I was seeking an second opinion is because the first oral surgeon I consulted with a couple of months ago wanted to do arthroscopic surgery immediately on my jaw. The caveat with this particular surgery is being on a "no chew" diet for 3 months afterwards! This was a bit alarming and really didn't fit in with my schedule, so I sought out Dr. Louis. He agreed with the diagnosis of the previous surgeon but was not recommending surgery now or in the future unless that is the route I want to take. He prescribed a once a… day anti-inflammatory to ease my symptoms. The other positive in my visit with Dr. Louis is that the time both he and the resident spent with me was twice what the other surgeon did in two visits, plus at the other office I waited over an hour at both appointments just to be called back. I am pleased with my treatment and the information I received at my visit with Dr. Louis and would recommend him if you are having TMJ issues.

Dr. Louis is an amazing surgeon. I was involved in a accident at work witch left my orbital socket shattered. After my surgery was over and it was healed only I my self can tell that the accident had ever happed .

Dr. Louis is always very professional and explains his procedures carefully. He discusses options too. After numerous surgeries, I have always been treated with utmost respect and consideration.

I can not agree more with the many patients who express the real truth about how Dr. Louis performs, or does not perform. I am a 2003 patient of Dr. Louis, believe me he is the most uncaring physician I have ever met. At first, Dr. Louis seem so concerned and caring. After he performed total joint replacement surgery on me, putting in writing, the surgery was not successful. Dr. Louis became uncaring and immediately dismissed me from his care, I was left with a bad over bite, one eye bulging, sutures inside my head, numerous teeth requiring root canals, pain so bad daily. I have seen at least 15 physicians since my botched surgeries by Dr. Louis who can not understand why the procedures were performed. I am in good health except for my jaws and pain in my mouth and teeth. No physician knows what to do to correct my problems. I agree that a person who has true faith would not continue to ruin a patients life. Compassion can be seen in a persons actions, Dr. Louis has… no compassion. I would not recommend this physician to perform and procedure. I do agree he has an ego larger than life. I can not understand an ego from someone who does not have any more ability than this man. Seems as though this physician would realize he does not have the ability to perform jaw surgery, ptosis surgery, or any surgery more than general dentistry. I witnessed his ego with the student interns, sickening. He will from a higher source be held responsible for ruining patients lives, with no remorse. I pray for this man that he will not have someone do to his love ones what he does to his patients. What goes around comes back around, this is a fact. Please do not think this physician is the answer to your TMJ problems, he will be your worst nightmare.

Dr. Louis performed a surgery on me and when I complained about something afterward, he dismissed me. Come to find out, what I was complaining about was a serious complication that I had to have additional surgery for. I did not want Dr. Louis to touch me at this point, but I was hoping he could fix the problem he caused with relative ease. Or one would think! My how naive was I! Right now, I've had two surgeries and I'm waiting to meet with another oral surgeon who by all accounts is competent and has an outstanding bedside manner and tells it like it is. Thank God someone does! Dr. Louis did openly admitted that he messed up my surgery to myself and my husband. I felt completely gutted, shocked, by his admission and all I could think about was punching him in his long face. As an aside, he does favor Obama and there are other unflattering similarities--he is about as transparent as him too. Take that for what it's worth! If you want a man of faith to be working on you, look… elsewhere. If you want a man with an ego who wants to look good in front if his yes man interns, than look no further. This has been a hard and terribly painful lesson learned for me and I would tell others to think twice before letting him touch your face, mouth, jaw, whatever. He doesn't explain things well and there were times when my husband and I even wondered to ourselves if he knew what he was talking about. He does not inspire confidence--something else he has in common with our commander in chief--and I just wish that I had listened to my hesitancies because I might not be in this situation had I. I believe Dr. Louis is a member of the over eager surgery club because the Kirkln Clinic is a teaching hospital. I might not ever be where I was before the surgery, but I will fight the good fight so others can make informed decisions and not fall victim as I have.

Dr. Louis performed double jaw surgery on me this summer. When I woke up, he said everything was okay but I didn't think it was. I questioned him about the neck pain that I was having which later turned out to be my jaw bones which were too low in my neck. If you have gut instinct about something, be persistent even in the face of repeated adversity because I had to go back to surgery and have those same bones raised and attached by metal Plates and screws. I was told I got ed beforehand that I was going to be getting resorable plates and that was not the case. The lack of communication across the board from doctor to hospital is appalling. If you get an intern, ask for the doctor because they don't know what they are doing. They are just yes men or women. I have three college degrees, I work a full time job, I own my own successful business on the side and I even write each month for a national magazine under a pseudo name. I have no reason to lie: I'm shooting straight for the… hip. Was I upset and mad? Yes, by all means because I did nothing wrong, Dr. Louis admitted to my husband and I that he could have kicked himself for not investigating further what I was saying. Two weeks later, I was having a surgery that I did not want and should not have had endured! I would not wish this surgery and mistake on anyone!! Not even my worst enemy. In due conscience, I cannot recommend Dr. Louis and once I'm completely recovered--if I ever will be--I will be finding another oral surgeon--most likely at Vanderbilt, where I have never had problems handled with tremendous care and respect. My last piece of universal advice is to find a godly doctor that you trust!
