Dr. Patrick I Mcconnell, MD

We had the pleasure of having Dr. McConnell as our surgeon for our 3.5 month old son who needed a valvuloplasty to repair his bicuspid valve. He is an incredible surgeon and was very up front and honest about what the risks were, how much he could improve his valve, and what to expect. Immediately after the surgery he came to us and told us how well our son did and explained how much improvement was made and what to expect for our sons future. I appreciated how thorough he was and how he clearly did not take our sons life lightly. He cares about each of his patients so much and i am forever grateful for the work he has done for our son.

Dr. McConnell saved my life. I had a Ross procedure done in Feb 2020 to replace my aortic valve. He took time with me during his extremely busy schedule to tell me the benefits and risks associated with each valve choice. He said whatever valve I pick it is the right one. During surgery he discovered a large aneurysm on my aortic root. He told me traditionally they would opt to put in a mechanical valve knowing I had a aneurysm. But because we had spoken before the surgery and because he knew I wanted the Ross procedure. He respected my wishes fixed the aneurysm and preformed the Ross procedure. This option was good for me because my husband and I hope to be parents in the future and it didn’t require me to be on a blood thinner after surgery. I have so much respect for him and his team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Calm demeanor, decent bedside manner. The thing that really impressed me (aside from a successful surgery) is that when I emailed him a lengthy email full of questions after our first meeting, he replied, in lengthy detail, within 3 hours. I work in the medical field & I know the fact that he, himself, replied & thoughtfully, in a short amount of time is impressive & genuine. My daughter is recovering from her surgery very well. (It's been 2 weeks).

There are not enough words to say how highly I respect Dr McConnell. He did a complicated heart repair on my daughter and she recovered amazingly well. I found him to be extremely caring, both before and after the surgery. He spent a great deal of time with us before answering all of our questions and thoroughly explaining the surgical plan. After the surgery, he stopped by her hospital room several times a day to see how she was doing. I was impressed by how much he cared about her recovery in all areas, not just the heart issues. I give him my highest recommendation.
