Dr. Patrick Showalter, MD

He was a referral from St Thomas staff Dr. hospital stay, after waiting two weeks with a catheter all he said was well you're old. He did no exam, x-rays, nothing.

My husband went to him the first time to see about getting his lupron shot for his prostate cancer. The Dr had the hall to tell him without knowing anything about him that if he didn't continue to get the shots he'd die the most horrible death from his cancer. He also refuses to discuss with us why he needs to continue with the catheter that was put in on his last trip to the hospital. My husband has home health and when the nurse called to discuss his catheter he talked to her like she was an idiot. His manners are atrocious and I wouldn't recommend him to care for my dog.

Doctor talked down to me and discounted my comments. Answer when asked direct question was “might be”.

This absolutely FABULOUS physician cared for my son about 13 years ago, and I, my DIL, plus other family members could not be more pleased (or thankful) that a trip to the ER could net us the perfect urologist! Now, I get to have him as mine! He and his staff are as wonderful as I remember, and his habit of spending however much time is needed with a patient to either explain findings from tests, go over treatment options or whatever the patient is needing from Dr. Showalter, he does NOT run out of the room leaving the patient upset, lost, or any other negative feeling they could have. If one has never experienced his supreme level of care, they may wonder why they're sitting in their room for so long... when the reason is simply: you, new patient, are about to receive a level of care and compassion rarely seen in medical offices these days! I was hoping I could leave a comment in the box below my wait time, but evidently I cannot. I had a longer wait than normal because I was late due… to some people texting while driving and leaving 4-5 car lengths in between their vehicles (thankful for THAT) and others on the interstate not having a clue that the speed limit is 70 not 50... however, I wasn't chastised for being late, I was sympathized with! Amazing, yes?

Horrible office staff and the manager of the office is appalling. You can tell the customer service given by staff (front office and nurses) is learned from a bad leader. The bedside manner of the physician is a little better than the staff, but don't ask any questions because he will give you a stare that says "I can't believe you are wasting my time with your questions." If you are only wanting treatment and don't care to ask questions about your procedure or diagnosis then he may be a good doctor for you. Diagnosed with cancer and had to get pathology report from hospital myself to get diagnosis. Still to this day, no one has ever called me to tell me I had cancer.

Excellent doctor!

I've never written a review on any doctor, but I've never felt like less of a person after leaving his office. I went in with sevier bladder pain and left the first time with no answers. He kept telling me "It may or may not be this" after my urinalysis came back normal. Never did anything else except send me home with some numbing meds. I decided to go back in for my follow up to give him another chance, and I was still in sevier pain. I went in with a list of questions that I got ZERO answers to. He sent me home with a prescription to last me a year, without any kind of diagnosis, or answers to what it may be or how long the pain would last. Seemed arrogant and uncaring to me. Went elsewhere for a second opinion.

Very rude. Never been so upset after visiting a doctor. Will not be returning to him.

Dr. Showalter was excellent! Nothing but professional! I'm a RN and it is very uncommon for a doctor to display both supreme intelligence AND amazing bedside manner! I easily and professionally recommend him to anyone. The staff are just as awesome!

I went to this doctor in a ton of pain several times and he blew me off each time and I quote " he didn't know where my pain was coming from" we'll he never tried to find anything out either!!! I have had a ton of kidney stones since I was 17 and get them still and am always in pain. The last time I went to him he basically said I was lying as to passing stones and my ct scans were exactly the same from 2 years ago..... Ummm new stones and he was rude and very arrogant! Do not like this doctor! So I went to a kidney doctor and was diagnosed with medullary sponge kidney disease which is pretty funny since I cording to showalter he had no idea and the pain couldn't be related. I am in the search of getting down to my constant left sided pain and it's no thanks to this doctor. Do not go to him! He'll just make you repeat 24 hr urine tests and other nonsense over and over again. He must have not had a single stone in his life. If he has he may know it's not fun and actually take someone's… pain to heart!!! I honestly wouldn't even give him 1 star!
