Dr. Patrick Htain Win, MD

Went in for food allergy testing. I was told it was pointless (but they could do it), so they went ahead and did other allergy testing (no food which is what I was having an issue with). The first test was inconclusive, but after the exam, I could look in a mirror and probably could have read the spots myself, so then they asked to do another test. I should have been smart and just walked out since they weren't even testing what I asked to be tested for in the first place. I asked if my insurance covered what they were asking because I was curious and wanted to know. They told me yes, but now I get a bill that only a fraction of it was covered, so make sure you don't leave your question open ended like I did if you ask any questions like that. Walked out knowing I was allergic to pretty much everything in doors and sent home to figure out which expensive treatment I wanted to do. I haven't gone back since and will soon receive the hefty bill in the mail. Update: I tried working with… them to get the insurance to pay them what they said was covered. I was told that the billing group called the insurance to try and get the claim paid. Upon calling the insurance company, I found out that the allergist company didn't seem to push to get their money from the insurance and "coded" the visit differently than what the insurance told them would be covered. I called the allergist back to information them and told them about this and that the insurance said a claim could be re-looked at and if they could prove this was for allergies, the insurance would pay. I now have been notified that the insurance will not pay and I'm expected to pay for the pieces I was told were covered. If you need an allergist either a) Pick a different one b) Do the work before you go in to see if all that is covered and DO NOT agree to letting them get more money out of you and tell you something is covered.

I got the allergy tests done on my back for stuff I didn't even come in for. I wanted to be tested for food allergies, but was told that was a waste and they will test me for other stuff. The first reading they said didn't show much (even though after the appointment, I could probably have read them myself), so they asked to do another. I asked if it was covered by my insurance. They said yes. I should have just walked out since this test didn't do anything for my problem that I went in for. Now I have a large bill with no answers to my food problem. Also I was prescribed meds that were supposed to be called in and waited over a week and two phone calls later before I finally got a call from the pharmacy that the meds were ready. Honestly, it is a bummer, but I didn't get an answer and will not be trying another allergist anytime soon because of fear of being charged way more than it is worth.

I appreciate Dr. Win's bed side manner. He talks to me as a family member or friend with understanding and concern with my allergy battles. I feel comfortable with him and I don't feel as though he is 'The Doctor' and I can't associate myself with him; but I feel totaly assured of his competence as an Allergist. I feel if I ran into him outside of the office he would treat me as a friend and that is a comforting feeling.From an Allergy Patient
