Dr. Paul Dean Anderson

I was treated by Dr. Anderson years ago when I lived in NW Iowa. I was very sick with what I now know is Bipolar with a depersonalization disorder. However, Dr. Anderson kept labeling me as Borderline Personality Disorder and made it quite known to me there was no treatment or hope for me. He said more than once medication would not help me and I needed a new brain. Although, at one time he had me on 15 medications. I was so drugged up I could not walk safely and he had to give me ritalin to keep me awake. He changed my medication sometimes 2-3 times a week (which is how often I saw him some weeks) so there was really no time for my body to get used to them and do their job. More than once he yelled at me, told me I was being childish, threatened me with hospitalization or comittment to a nursing home type place (I was in my 20's) or the state hospital and told the RN's on the Mental Health Unit to stay away from me since I was doing this to myself and was manipulative due to… the borderline. I often saw drug reps leaving his office and then I know I would be in for a med change to whatever they were pushing. Since I saw a therapist at his office, he was able to get to her too and more than once he came into the session to berate me and tell me to "knock it off and snap out of it." It was my fault after all...all 3 years of struggling with an incorrectly diagnosed and treated mental illness was my fault. I had to leave NW IA after he gave me the ulitmatum to leave or be commited. I left and now have an excellent psychiatrist and therapist. The best thing I ever did was leave his "care" for that of someone who knew what they were doing. If you read this and stay away from him from what I wrote then I have succeeded in helping you to receive the better care that you deserve in a time of crisis.

This man cared a lot about the money and keeping me locked up and drugged, but dropped me when the money dried up and the county court ruled he had errored in my diagnosis and treatment. He was constantly psychologically testing, condescending, provoking and laughed at my problems. He didn't listen to my issues, but rather told me what my symptoms were, which they were not. He's neither a medical doctor nor is he a psychiatrist, but rather an osteopathic physician taking advantage of the rights he has with that degree to practice sloppy medicine on people who will only be damaged mentally, but not have the mental/cognitive or financial ability to defend themselves against his manipulative personal style of what I believe is gross malpractice. If he were a surgeon or medical doctor the physical evidence would have shut his practice down long ago. I'm now a neurological specialist and know that he was practicing trial and error with almost random medications and charge excessive amounts… for his personal experimentation and fumbling around.
