Dr. Paul E Chasan

I unfortunately had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Chasan and ultimately regret choosing him for my reductive breast augmentation. I initially chose him because of his published work and because reductive breast augmentation was presented as an area of his specialty. Unfortunately, my experience involved inadequate preoperative planning, persistent postoperative problems, multiple revisions, contradictory explanations, and ultimately feeling dismissed as a patient. Before surgery, I had high-profile implants that I had tolerated very well and had never experienced any significant problems with. I chose the reductive breast augmentation primarily because I felt my existing implants were somewhat too large for my frame and I had developed uncomfortable sagging. I did not feel I was given adequate time to discuss implant profiles, sizes, or aesthetic goals, and no actual implants were brought out for me to compare. Following my first surgery in February 2025 and throughout… the two subsequent revision procedures, I experienced multiple issues, including left-sided animation deformity, asymmetry, an implant that remained excessively high and did not settle properly, palpable implant edges along my inner cleavage, and redundant excess skin. I repeatedly followed the advice to wait and heal, but the problems persisted. I ultimately underwent two additional revisions, in October 2025 and May 2026. I also sought opinions from two independent plastic surgeons, who independently identified the issues and agreed they could be addressed. One of my biggest concerns involved the implant profile. Before my second revision, I specifically requested a high-profile implant and did not want an ultra-high-profile implant. While I was under anesthesia, Dr. Chasan decided that HE did not like the appearance of the high-profile option because, in his opinion, it "looked flat," and chose an ultra-high-profile implant instead. When I later questioned that decision, I was given a different explanation: I was told that the ultra-high-profile implant was necessary to correct the animation deformity. I was never given a clear explanation as to why it was the only option. I was also troubled by the suggestion that my anatomy or the way my body responded made an acceptable result difficult to achieve. That was difficult for me to reconcile with the fact that Dr. Chasan proceeded with two additional revision surgeries after already knowing my anatomy, seeing the problems that had developed, and seeing how my body had responded to the initial surgery. If he believed my anatomy made a satisfactory result unlikely, I believe that should have been clearly communicated before proceeding with additional surgeries. Throughout the process, I felt that I was not given adequate time or attention to discuss my concerns. Follow-up calls were often extremely brief less than 2 minutes, and on more than one occasion I traveled to San Diego for appointments that lasted approximately 15 minutes. I also received contradictory postoperative instructions, which further contributed to my loss of confidence in my care. What was most troubling was feeling blamed rather than supported when I continued to raise concerns. After three surgeries, significant financial and travel commitments, and repeated attempts to find a meaningful solution, the communication ultimately ended with, "I wish you the best moving forward." I felt dismissed and discarded as a patient. I have since found another plastic surgeon whom I trust to address the remaining problems, but I now face another surgery and additional expense to correct what remains. Patients deserve to be listened to, to have their preferences respected, to receive adequate postoperative care, and to know their surgeon will work with them with empathy and patience when something does not go as planned. I am highly satisfied with the procedure I had, with the results, with Dr. Chasan and with his overall team. This is despite having a few post-op unexpected small difficulties. Dr. Chasan and his team have been amazing in terms of their responsiveness and follow up. They have been on top of everything showing patience, diligence and that they really care. Dr. Chasen is a skilled surgeon, he utilizes innovative methods and is a great specialist. He and everybody in his team are very professional, caring, compassionate, flexible, friendly and patient. You can't ask for more from a team of true professionals. I highly recommend Dr. Chasan.

Dr. Chasan - what I absolutely love about him is that he cares and he truly listens to his patients to guarantee happiness. I struggled for years debating if I should get a rhinoplasty revision and who to go to. The moment I came across Dr. Chasan's page and shortly after talking to Rachael, I had no doubt in my mind that he was the surgeon for me. I had to travel since I am not from California, which I was nervous about, but it has been such an amazing experience and such a great decision. Several of my friends went to Dr Chasan for breast augmentations. They all were very pleased with the results and the process he and his staff provided. After my second child, I wanted to get C cup breast implants with a lift. I was fearful my request to error on the smaller size would be ignored.
