Dr. Paul Francis Gleason, MD

I had a very unpleasant visit with this doctor yesterday and wanted to share my experience in the hopes that either a) something will change or b) others can avoid this office. Given that this doctor specializes in high risk pregnancies, I am that much more disheartened that both he and his ultrasound technician were so lacking in basic compassion and kindness. We were referred here by our regular OBGYN to have an NT scan (I am 35 years old with a history of early pregnancy loss), and right off the bat, the technician was unkind and seemed annoyed verging on combative. It was my first abdominal ultrasound, which I told her, and it hurt so much. She kept pushing hard and shaking the wand to jostle the baby awake (?) but she communicated NONE of this with me. It was distressing to say the least, and I genuinely felt like a piece of meat. I should have said something or stopped the ultrasound right then and there, so I take responsibility for that. But in such a vulnerable situation,… the least we can ask for is some gentleness and communication. Talking with Dr. Gleason was also deeply unpleasant. He seemed to have no interest in me or my partner, spoke relentlessly in metaphors, and was casually dismissive and critical about my other doctors. To be honest, I couldn’t wait to get out of there. If you’re looking for some kindness and compassion in your medical treatment - ESPECIALLY IN PREGNANCY - do not go to this practitioner. There are many other, kinder people in the Westmed practice.

Some people really want a doctor that sugar coat everything they say, if that’s your case he’s probably not your doctor. He’s too real and some people don’t like that I believe for I read on other reviews. In our opinion, Hands down to him… he monitored our pregnancy so close to make sure everything was ok (I had a Placenta previa). I will trust him. 100000 times again.

The first ultrasound was not thorough & he continuously repeated I needed to get my gestational diabetes test; although he concluded all was normal with our baby. The day before I was scheduled for the gestational diabetes test; I received an email with his negative remarks. In those remarks he labeled me obese & as if I already had gestational diabetes. At that moment I was heartbroken, shamed, & embarrassed in additional to all the turmoil, stress, & worry he had placed us through by saying if I didn't do the test there could be harm to the baby. On our next appointment my husband came with me & he kept pushing the test even before he did the ultrasound. He also went further by saying our baby maybe struggling to swallow and I had too much fluids. During labor because of his notes we were pricked both our baby and I several times all to conclude neither of us had diabetes. Our child was born gorgeous and completely healthy. Shameful fear mongering practice & a money making scam!

I’m going to be honest, if you are extremely sensitive and you are just looking for a doctor to say everything nice and cute than he’s not for you. He is extremely honest and strict so you can understand how serious any condition could be so you do everything to help save your baby. I would recommend him 1000000 times.

If you want to leave that office hopeless, an emotional wreck and all the other negative things you weren’t before walking in there then go to this doctor. The most negative person I’ve ever had a conversation with not only towards our unborn baby but to his staff members. He may need to consider switching careers. Moms to be go through enough this is the last thing we need to add.

1st pregnancy at 37, all lab work was fine, sonogram (with baby in breach position) showed head measurements a little small; had amniocentesis with micro array, fetal MRI too at Dr. Gleason’s insistence-all the while not being caring or compassionate. All test results came back normal ; he still insisted that I had IUGR; Dr. Gleason caused me so much stress. My water broke at 32 weeks- I delivered a beautiful premature baby girl naturally at Greenwich Hospital. The neonatologist who was in the delivery room and took care of her said that she was a good size for 32 weeks, exactly where she should have been weight and height. He questioned why I had been told I had IUGR and said fetal MRI was unnecessary and very stressful for me and the baby. Dr. Gleason got it wrong and caused me undo stress and anxiety during what should have been the happiest time in my life. He never even bothered to follow up on me. Do not see him, use another doctor.

Dr. Gleason is an amazing Physician he saved my daughter's life !!!!!. He is knowledgeable, thorough, and direct. He was able to identify and address a problem another Obgyn was dismissive about. I could really tell he truly cared about my unborn child's life. I would take a physician that is knowledgeable and effective over one that fakes a smile but truly doesn't care. Dr. Gleason cares about his unborn patients.

Avoid this MD, without getting into details I would avoid him he will not guide you safely through a pregnancy. As a nurse of 19 yrs have never had an interaction with an doc like him. Rude, dismissive, and not very smart! Does not listen to what you are saying or asking, never took a medical history, offered genetic testing like he was a car salesman offering features on a car. He is clearly annoyed by seeing patients, which is bizarre bc he is a specialist and all his patients have co-morbidities, that is why they are rendered to him. I would not recommend him to anyone!

My wife and I have never had an experience like we had with Dr. Gleason. He was cold, had no bed side manner, no sense of excitement, and just did not seem like the kind of person who should be working with expectant parents. Without going into the entire story, at one point my wife became upset when we were told we needed to come back in two weeks because he couldn’t get clear pictures of our baby. His response was, “why are you upset? Is it what I said or are you just being hormonal?” And the way he told us we were having a boy? Again, no excitement, no build up, just, “looks like it’s probably a baby boy.” Thanks doctor, your excitement is infectious.

I was referred to Dr. Gleason by my ob-gyn at Westmed as well. From the moment I got in I was uncomfortable. Dr. Gleason made me feel I did not deserve to be a mother because I had become pregnant while a diabetic. He made me feel an abortion was a good way to go, even before he had any ultrasound done or any other information. To top it all off he told an emotional mother-to-be "for all I know your baby could be dead inside you right now". I was such a wreck when I left his office I cried my way home. Please avoid if you can. I started seeing another high risk doctor, so far everything looks perfect with my baby.
