Dr Paul Katz

Let me preface this by saying that Dr. Katz is a lovely man. Kind and friendly. I feel terrible to write this but this is my truth and I feel it is important to tell it. I had pain in my groin and thought it might be an ovarian cyst, so I went to my OBGYN. She examined me and told me that she felt it was a swollen lymph node but that a hernia couldn't be ruled out. She gave me a referral to a surgeon- actually, another surgeon (Dr. Gellman) in the same practice. When I called to make an apt, I was informed that he was booked for several weeks and to get me in fast, they would have me see Dr. Katz. I got a very quick appointment with him, the staff was great and accommodated me quickly. The day of the appt. I met with Dr. Katz. He asked me a few questions and examined me quickly. He told me (I did NOT have any Xrays, Blood, MRI, CT scans to go by, just my verbal symptoms and description) that I had a little femoral hernia, a swollen lymph node and that my endometriosis may have come… back. He wanted to schedule surgery for me. He told me also that this could not be done laparoscopically (sic) due to the location. I asked him if he wouldn't want to do any testing and he told me he felt "why expose me to radiation" I went and SCHEDULED the surgery. When I got in my car and realized what had just happened I freaked. I didn't feel good that this man was going to perform surgery on me, not knowing what he was going to find when he opened me up. I got home and cancelled and did some research and found another surgeon to see. PS- he did an ultrasound AND CT scan- no hernia. Swollen lymph node and we are still doing testing. This, to me is incredibly frightening that he wanted to do such a surgery on me and - for what? I have a baby- surgery is a BIG deal for me and - there IS no hernia. I never write reviews but I think in any case it is always critical to get a second opinion. Thank GOD I did. This is my story. I wish him well, again, he is a LOVELY man.

Had a laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair performed by dr Katz.Had terrible pains afterwards for about 2 weeks.He said it was normal and since had no prior experience I thought is fine.Then more pains for many months until I discovered that it came back on both sides!Of course went to another surgeon who corrected and had no issue afterwards ,with no pain after the surgery although it was an open procedure.Now just found out that he provoked me an umbilical hernia from the initial procedure,and need surgery again!In a word a terrible doctor,avoid at any cost

Went for a bilateral hernia repair.After the surgery horrible pains for many days.After a year everything is back.Said that indeed the hernia is back,has no idea why probably a technical error fixing the mesh.Have to go again for another surgery
