Dr. Paul David Reilly, MD

He was a good doctor and quite possibly a good man. I loved his no nonsense, tough love approach. I watched his group therapy change peoples lives for the better. Transformations took place. I placed my trust in this guy. I did leave group eventually. I decided to tell a hard truth about him in group one day. He also betrayed my trust that day. He had no problem calling people out in group daily, but when it came time for him to own up to something undesirable about himself-he wouldn’t do it. In fact, he lied to my face and to the group. That is inexcusable. He let me down that day. That was eight years ago.

If all you have is social anxiety, Reilly might work out. If you have anything more, you should know that he tries to pigeon hole everyone into just a few diagnoses. If he likes you, group sessions aren't too bad. If you question him, fail to do exactly what he instructs, or say that his advice didn't work, be prepared to get on his bad side. During group, he is frequently mocking and condescending. He definitely has favorites and it plays out as a mini-cult during group. He insists that some members go to several groups a week because he doesn't have enough patients to otherwise maintain the many groups he runs. Reilly has a very strong personality and is exceptionally convincing. Most group members seem to be afraid of him. If you pay attention, he contradicts himself frequently - but be careful trying to bring that up. Many group sessions were directly abusive. He has yelled to group members during group that they are losers. This man is very controling. Be careful if… you choose to see him.

Honestly, I'm afraid of the man. I brought my daughter to him and I had to attend group sessions also. They were a waste of time and it ended up with my daughter running away (not his fault, I know... but he didn't help the matter). I kept going to the sessions for a while because "where there's a sick kid, there's a sick parent." Well, he demands payment even if you cannot be there- no excuses. I had other children and couldn't make an appointment a couple of times. He called my home and said I owed him money. He then proceeded to berate me and tell me to be an adult and grow up. I am pretty sure calling me at home and demanding "his money" isn't really ethical. Man, he's a nut bag.

I used to visit Dr Reilly, several yrs ago.it was a complete waste of time. In group therapy, he would not allow us to speak to each other outside his presence. He also had a way of making me feel stupid and mean. He came recommend ed by my regular doctor. She decided not to show up for work one day, quitting. She have known then to not take her recomendation.

Insisted on putting me on a medication that I was not allowed to research and would have to take birth control for. Ordered me to go into group therapy when I requested individual. Demanded cash payment. I don't think he can be trusted.

I needed a psychiatrist after a suicide attempt, and was pressured into making an appointment with Dr. Reilly. Over the phone, he was short, cold and rude. In person, he was extremely rude and unsympathetic, trying to force me into medication and banning me from researching it, as well as pressuring me to go to group therapy and pay for it even if the session was cancelled.

I was a patient for a year. I thought he was running racket there, with the money. I thought he was a quack, to many rules. His therapy groups were a nightmare, all he did was talk about himself. He treated you like you had the plague. When you arrived at his office you had to wait for him to open the door, so you couldn't see who left out the other door. Signed dissatisfied

Dr. Reilly has helped my greatly with my anxiety and I would recommend him to anyone I know if they were in need of a psychiatrist. He is able to see new patients quickly. Group therapy may seem like a turn off to some people, I was leery about it at first myself, but it has proven to be very helpful. Dr. Reilly has years of experience and he knows what works. I'm glad I decided to stick with it because I feel much more confident and less anxious now.

If you are looking for a doctor to sit with you for an hour and tell you the psychological crap that most psychiatrists overcharge for then go somewhere else. Group and Individual therapy sessions are a safe, honest environment. Dr. Riley will not sugar coat and can seem insensitive at times, but it is usually in a joking manner and not meant to be serious. Although many of his tactics are unconventional, I have had experiences with conventional therapy and know firsthand that Dr. Riley knows what he is doing and will help you if you let him.
