Dr. Paul J Ricca, DO

Dr Ricca was my Primary for over a decade. He treated me and my sister at his practice. I've read complaints about wait time . Why they blame him for that is confusing. Its multiple doctors in 1 location. I received outstanding care despite an occasional 20 min delay. He's always been kind and very thorough at each visit. I trust him and believe he always did his best to ensure he addressed every concern. He paid attention to things I wasn't even paying attention to. He no longer works at the practice in Massapequa and I have been lost since He's gone.

long waits in waiting room as much as an hr. then another 1/2hr. to get him. then he rushes you out the door. takes a lot of tests which i liked. would not recommend

I had seen him 3 times. The first time he was in a hurry and could not get out of the room fast enough. The second time I saw him ,was because I had an infection and my Dr. wasn’t in that day. He again was in a hurry and disappeared for 10 minutes ,then came back in and shoved a Tetris shot in my left arm , left the room again for 10 minuets and then ran in and put a bandage on the wrong arm and as he walked out , told me to follow up with my Doctor. The third time was because I needed a clearance for shoulder surgery( had to use him because it was a comp. case). He again was in a hurry and said something to me quickly and started to leave the room. When I called to him to explain what he had just said , he got snippy and then ordered a barrage of tests for me to have before my surgery. I asked another Dr. in the practice if I needed the tests he ordered, and was told No, not for the surgery I was having, and that he had had a bad day and was maybe ordering all the additional tests… because I had challenged him and he was also afraid because he was also sued for malpractice. There are way to many good Doctors out there to put up with his incompetence.

I would not recommend anyone to Dr. Paul Ricca. Patients are made to wait at least an hour in the waiting room and another half hour in the examening room. And Dr. Ricca spends a total of 5 minutes going taking blood pressure and going over bloodwork results before he rushes off. It is as if the doctor's time is more important than your own. Worse than that, recently the doctor recommended that I take some tests and then he had his assistant call to tell me to come in to discuss the abnormal results. Finding out that test results are abnormal is upsetting enough. When I said I wanted to speak to the doctor on the telephone, I was told I had to schedule an office visit. I called to speak to the doctor twice during that same day and left two messages. The doctor did not call me back until the next day. When I told him how worried I was after hearing the test results were abnormal and asked why he didn't call me back, he said he was too busy and didn't have time. Apparently he… thought it was totally acceptable to make me wait until I was able to schedule an appointment, possibly 2 or 3 days later (having to take time off from work), to find out what was wrong with me. And then the icing on the cake was that he told me the diagnosis and suggested that I follow up with one of my other doctors. So why couldn't he take 5 minutes on the telephone the same day to prevent the anxiety that accompanies the ambiguous message that test results are abnormal? What he did to me and what he probably does to all his patients is totally unacceptable. Everyone has the right to common courtesy from their physician.
