Dr Sovell is an amazing Doctor. I worked with him at St John's and was impressed by his intelligence, compassion, and incredible abilities. I would trust him with anyone in my family. Remarkable man and physician.

I took my shoe off for him to do a physical exam of my foot (intense pain during weight bearing). He took off my sock, inside out, and dropped it to the floor. He did a physical exam and listened to my history of the area. The moment I told him I deliver for Amazon it's like he shut down or something. He ordered a CT scan to rule out possible stress fracture, but that was it. He didn't even tell me to go back to the main waiting area he was out of there so fast. If he would have stuck around and cared, he would have heard about how I can't pay my bills without this highly active job and have no benefits of any kind through either of my two jobs. Sent home with a sprain diagnosis, continue OTC pain meds (which I told him twice made no difference to the pain), he said just ice it and walked off. Didn't even acknowledge the very real possibility if I follow his care plan I'll be homeless. The diagnosis may not have changed at all, and likely I wouldn't be able to work Amazon… regardless with what is going on, but he just treated me so horribly the whole way through. He only gets that second star from me because he ordered a (fairly basic) test and ruled out one of my main concerns.

During an incredibly painful sickle cell crisis Dr Sovell angrily storms in my room and boldly accuses me of drug use and claims I’m not in pain but rather, I just want IV Drugs for recreational purposes. Initially completely shocked and lost for words I Weakly point at the monitor that shows a blood pressure of 220/150 and a heartbeat of 130 BPM. He proceeds to scoff in indignation and continues to berate me. I then realize that they must’ve drug tested The urine and ask how can he make these accusations with a clean drug free urine sample. He says that I was hiding my urine to get IV drugs longer. I respond “hiding my drug free urine?” He Proceeds to ignore me and stops my pain treatment plan. This was a bizarre and rare case of being held guilty after being proven innocent. I can only guess why he decided to believe this delusion and ignore the hard, accurate evidence but one can assume he needs Unconscious Bias Training or other Diversity or Anti-racist Training. Worst experience.

He treated my husband poorly at St Joseph's hospital. He refused to listen to our concerns. Although my husband was having chest pain with shortness of breath he did a few tests and decided to send him because according to him, he was doing well and nothing was wrong with him. I had to advocate for my husband otherwise he would have sent him home without ruling out a life threatening illness. Worst ER doctor.

Paul was one of the smartest physicians I have ever worked with in the ED and has astute Differential diagnostic skills.

I was seen in the Emergency room at St Johns hospital in 2008. I was in pain and terrified that I was having an ectoptic pregnancy. He told be it's not possible to have a tubal pregnancy with HCG numbers like mine and sent me home. 2 day later I was back at St Johns bleeding internally in their waiting room from a ruptured ectopic pregnancy!

I had the worst ER experience of my life with Dr. Sovell. I waited for hours to be seen because I legitimately thought something was wrong. Dr.Sovell entered and left my room in under 5 minutes, barely asked me about what was going on, didn’t do any type of physical exam except listen to my heart/lungs, and provided me absolutely no treatment options. He was condescending, rude, and made me feel like I wasn’t worth his time. He made assumptions about what I was feeling and signed discharge papers without answering my questions. I don’t know why this man is practicing medicine when he clearly doesn’t value all patients. My experience with this physician will definitely make me reconsider ever going to the ER again - I would rather die than be seen by this so-called “doctor”.

POOR POOR PATIENT CARE. HIS SHIFT WAS DONE SO MY TIME THERE WAS DONE AND LEFT WITH NO ANSWERS OR RELIEF.
