Dr. Paul Walker, MD

I'm a former employee of Dr. Paul Walker. My employment was terminated in 2016 due to my health status. I willing told the office manager the medication I was on after she asked me what caused me to call out of work or leave early to go to the ER. After disclosing my HIV status to her I was told that I was a liability to her company and I was told go home and await a phone call on whether or not I was to return to work. Unfortunately I was not able to return to work for the office. Immediately after the conversation I applied for unemployment. She in turn attempted to get my claim to unemployment benefits denied. I was approved of course. As we all know bills do not stop so I had to find another job. Since I was just starting my new job at the time I was on a 90 day probation period, I had already spoken with the EEOC and obtained my intent to sue letter but I was not able to take this matter to court because of the statue of limitation. I spoke with a lawyer and he stated that… he simply does not have enough time to investigate the case. My job at the time would not allow me to take off to speak with the lawyer in a timely fashion. That being said if return to the Hampton Roads area I would not recommend this office.

Dr. Walker is a wonderful Doctor and really the only reason I continued to press through the attitude's of the office staff was because I liked him he did a wonderful job and he was my pediatrician. His staff on the other hand is ridiculous. My last experince with his office is actually why I had my PCP changed. I called for info. and there is no Doctor available until Monday the woman answering the phone was down right horrible! She had an attitude told me I didn't need a Referral to go to Patient First, yet my insurance told me otherwise, she told me that I could just go into a Riverside facility. I tried to tell her this wasn't an emergency and I did need a referral to be seen otherwise I'd end up with a bill my insurance wouldn't cover because it wasn't a medical nessecity. I also told the woman I couldn't risk taking her word for it because something like this has happened with this office before and I ended up fighting a bill. She even hung up on me and when I called back another… woman, much kinder, answered and I was told she had not hung up I hung up on her she as well was little help. As well each and every single time I am in his office I wait for over an hour and continue to wait once I'm in a room. Needless to say this is not the first problem I've had with this office staff but you can bet it certainly is the LAST!!!

I go to the hampton office where I have only seen Dr. Walker a few times. I normally see the other doctors/staff. When I haven an appointment even ones that have been scheduled months ahead of time I always have to wait 2+ hours. I expect to wait IF i didnt have an appt or just got squeezed in the same day but I should not have to wait so long when I've had one scheduled for months. The doctors do not seem like they are very knowledeable and are always sending me to a specialist for EVERYTHING. maybe I should save my money and go straight to the specialist because thats all these doctors will do. They are good for referring ONLY. I am currently looking for a new doctor. I would not recommend it to anyone. They always overbook and to the point where when you come in there is no place for you to sit.
