Dr. Paul Francis Walsh, MD

My entire experience at Sacramento Sutter Medical Center ER has been very pleasant. The staff is friendly and professional. The doctor was friendly and made me feel at ease. He explained everything to me so that I knew what to expect from my son's treatment.

Dr. Paul F. Walsh is unprofessional and lacks the empathy to deal with Children. My daughter has had brain surgery and has a complicated medical case. WE went to the ER because she was having erratic blood pressure readings (We are seen by a Cardiologist at Sutter) he did nothing after taking reading that showed signs of possible stoke. ( She has been on stroke alert before) His unprofessional/ substandard medical approach should not be acceptable. We left after sitting in the room unmonitored and repeatedly asking for him to page/call our Cardiologist left to another facility which we were admitted to say the least, and diagnosed with a medical condition. Sutter should really take complaints serious and not let him practice their anymore!

I can’t say anything for the negative reviews but here’s my experience. I presented to the ER with chest pain and thought I was having a heart attack. I was assigned to Dr. Walsh. He had a great bedside manner and was honest with me, which I appreciated. It turned out they couldn’t determine what exactly was wrong but I was more than ok with that because Dr. Walsh took his time and ran every test he could. He constantly checked up on me despite having numerous other patients and made me feel comfortable when I was scared. I liked him.

When you think about a pediatrician you think about a person who is kind and caring and will do whatever they can to help a child. This man is the exact opposite of all of that. He's rude uncaring not kind and frankly unfit to be caring for children. This man should be working with geriatric and not pediatric patients! Not only did he give us the wrong diagnosis for my child the medication that he prescribed would have overdosed my child based off the dosage and frequency for my baby. We got such a horrible run around here and the only thing this position wanted to do was give my child a popsicle, a grape popsicle! They never even took his temperature check his vitals or did anything for him until I threatened to leave and go to a different facility. I was pretty upset that all they wanted to do a shove a stick of Frozen sugar in my child without even checking his temperature! He had about a hundred and four degree temperature and the only thing they wanted to do was give him a… popsicle, we don't even give him popsicles or any sugar Laden Foods in my household and I argued that I did not want my child who had a hundred and four degree temperature that they didn't even check his temperature for hours to have a sugar Laden popsicle. Fast forward to when we were discharged he gave us medication for my kid to take on a frequency that was way too frequent and a dosage that was way too strong according to my child's primary pediatrician who we were lucky enough to get in to see first thing that next morning. Both my pediatrician and dr. Walsh know each other so she called him apparently and told him that he was wrong. Apparently this is not the first time from the impression I got from my pediatrician and I've been told by other people who have emailed me on Yelp that this position has treated their children in the same manner. I am certain this man has been reported to the medical board on multiple occasions. My advice to just about anybody is ovoid Sutter emergency room unless your child is unconscious unless you are unconscious because it's even worse for adults. Really really pathetic we need considered that were talking about newborns toddlers adolescence that are all being mistreated by this man

I was released from the hospital after having major back surgery to treat scoliosis about a week before being taken into the ER by ambulance on this occasion. This was not my first trip to the ER, as I had to go 3 other times to get my pain under control. I had spinal fusion from T4 to L4 which is basically my entire spine. I do not think I have or ever will be in this much pain again in my entire life. One of those times in the ER, the ER doctor prescribed me some pretty high dosed narcotics and told me to take those instead of the lower dosed Norco I had at home. One thing my highly qualified surgeon told me was that I could NOT take anything that was an anti-inflammatory as it could hinder my bone fusion. So, back to Dr. Walsh, a Pediatric ER "doctor". I was taken in by ambulance this day because I had fallen straight on my back on the tile floor. I was in extreme pain and could barely move so we just decided to call 911. All I really came to the ER for was an x-ray to make sure… that my rods and screws were still in place. But yes, I was in a lot of pain so they gave me some pain meds in the ER. Once Dr. Walsh found out I was still taking narcotics after only a week and have of surgery, he freaked out. He had seen that I had been to the ER a few times prior and that they had given me pain meds each time. I am only 19 years old. Never taken a narcotic in my life before this surgery. He then accuses me of basically making up the fall to get more narcotics. He told me that I would die if I immediately stopped taking the drugs I was on. (I stopped when I got home and here I still am, haha). He then explains to me he will prescribe me anti-inflammatory drugs to ease my pain. I told him my surgeon would disagree and he then got very firm and loud with me and accused me of abusing the narcotics. He said my surgeons "theory" is wrong and that there was a study done on animals that proved him wrong. A study, 1 study. Is he nuts?! So, I went home and did as he told me and on the next weekday, I called my surgeon and told him what he prescribed. They told me to absolutely not take those meds and to continue taking the narcotics. My point here is that Dr. Walsh does not know what he is talking about. He made me cry in the ER because of what he was accusing me of. Drug abuse is something I am very passionate about fixing and I know that I would never go down that path. Dr. Walsh treated me awfully. I would never recommend that you see this highly unqualified "doctor".

Without getting into detail about what my child had... Dr. Walsh was very friendly and informative... and had a great bedside manner
